WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama will deliver a commencement address at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, the White House has confirmed.

After the announcement was expected last Friday and again Monday but delayed, the winner of the Race to the Top Commencement Challenge was named to great expectations after each of the three finalists were notified.

The date of the speech has yet to be determined. In his first 27 months in office, Obama has not visited Memphis as president.

Booker T. Washington is the city’s oldest high school created for black students during segregation.

And we'll be GLAD to have him!

To my memory, he came here once to debate McCain and once to refuel in Bristol and that's it. Given the way the electoral landscape is, I didn't expect to see him any time soon. But they've chosen the next state over for the convention .... SOMETHING is up .... I think our favorite campaign organization is gonna try to pick up some of the reddest red states.

Should be fun.

4. WATCH THE VIDEO at the end of the article (bring a tissue)
A relative of one of my girlfriends helped make the video -.she supervised the kids at BTW. She herself was chosen for her own film work as a Ole Miss grad student, and her family is justifiably very proud of her.
