President Obama's campaign said in a memo Monday that the Republican candidates vying for the president's job are running to the extreme right of the party, embracing policies that Americans oppose.
"From economics to immigration, Gov. Perry, Gov. Romney and the Republican field have embraced policies that the American people oppose," campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said in the memo. "The campaign to win the Republican nomination has become a campaign to win the hearts and minds of the Tea Party."
Using a series of polling results favorable to Obama and his agenda, LaBolt laid out a number of areas -- tax cuts for the wealthy, healthcare reform repeal, Wall Street reform repeal -- where the campaign believes the Republicans are out of step with the mainstream.
The memo also blasts the candidates for their talk of abolishing or defunding the Department of Education and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
