Does POTUS want to put California in play ?
Because the fastest way to do it is NOT call back the dogs sickked on medical the cannabis folks.

It doesn't matter if the US attorneys are only targeting dispensaries and clubs within 1000 feet of schools. Why do this at all? It's a freaking local zoning/code enforcement issue in that case.

These US attorneys are nuts. And POTUS better stop this now. The optics are really, really bad. If this escalates and starts becoming another "grievance" that runs through the news cycle and penetrates the consciousness of the 99%ers, then people WILL NOT vote, and suddenly CA is in play. If CA is in play, then it's lights out USA. There is nothing the GOP could do, not even voter suppression in the various states, that would hurt more than turning away the CA electorate which loves medical cannabis and which would otherwise likely pass the legal cannabis measure in 2012.

This is heart attack serious. Calling all cars!............

4. Medical Bud is the wedgie issue of this age
If only democratic politicians could pull head out of arse.

You are either for helping sick people or you are against helping sick people
It's that simple
You don't even have to ask them if they support full legalization.
That train is arriving at the station eventually.

Are you joking? Google the history of 19. 19 was not resady for prime time except one guy decided to bankrolle it. The heavu hitters sat it out., They wanted to wait until '12. Yet 19 almost passed with zero aadvertising and huge sums expended by out of state opposition and federal scare tactics. People in CA care. So do people in COL. Just watch.............

11. It isn't the only issue
One of the saddest things I have ever seen is a man with brain cancer begging police not to take his cannabis after the police closed down a collective. He was told by a white shirt to get traditional medication. The poor guy weighed less than one hundred pounds. I was at a printing shop in the same strip mall. I cried with him. You do not help your cause constantly making fun of medical users. I have been through chemo and used traditional medication and it almost killed me.

There are many issues to be upset about. I blame republicans for most of them. But California was under the belief that the medical users were going to be left alone because of a letter from the DOJ and President Obama's words. Go ahead and keep making fun of people.

12. I, too, have been through chemo, sans cannibas. 11 yr. colon cancer survivor here.
Do you think the president just did this for funsies? The initial reaction on DU, from the usual suspects, tells me that they don't want to discuss the underlying illegalities, so I'll wait for more information from the DOJ.

I suspect that good intentions have lead to the drug abuse we've seen in places like Fla, with people flocking from around the country, to the "pill mills", where shady doctors make $$$$ prescribing hardcore "medications" for people with a tummy ache. Why don't we wait to see how this all plays out?

15. It's your tone that is offensive
I assume you are talking about 'legal' drugs in Florida since it isn't a medical state. Everything can and will be abused by some but all cannot be punished for the actions of a few. We should have learned that during prohibition. The actions by the administration are hurting those who don't abuse and treating them like criminals. History keeps repeating itself.

As far as the legal drugs I have no clue as to why thousands of them are still being given to patients. I was given one sleep aid that put me in such a stupor I took it back the next day. My daughter almost died when given a bad combination of medications when being treated for migraines. At least now, most doctors now know not to give anti depressants and migraine medication. A few years ago it was standard practice.

16. You know what's truly "offensive"? It's the 24/7 reactionary hate machine here at DU.
They, and their bandwagon, can take an issue and turn it into an Obama hatefest simply with the use of a sensational headline & selective quoting, because they know most won't bother to read further than the snippets they selected.

Quite frankly, I don't care if I offend those who post misleading information. :hi:

However, I take it with a grain of salt when the 24/7 Obama bashers post their usual sensationalistic headlines, that usually don't match the body of the article. Read GD-P much?

24. No Problem
I am a bleeding heart and it bothers me that people using medically will suffer. I control my diabetes with cinnamon and diet. I hate the pharmaceuticals.
FYI, I don't really know how it could be regulated. Different people use different strains for different illnesses. I think it can be tested for mold and pesticides and other nasty things. I can't abide the smell personally. In my younger days I threatened to wear a gas mask at concerts.
If organized crime has taken over the collectives it should stop but patients can't suffer for it.

26. Of course, this issue has been voted into law by a majority in
all of the States of the West Coast. So a snarky framing can not explain that away. Add that few out here like it when the Federal government interferes in laws passed by the voters and that makes two issues right there. In Oregon, people who oppose the medical marijuana law will turn to support it, because they more strongly oppose the meddling in that which we have voted on. It will not be popular with majorities in those states. In Oregon, the 'independent voters' will despise this move.
An enormous majority of Democratic voters in CA and in the other 13 Medical Marijuana States voted to put these laws on the books. Many independents and Republicans also supported and voted for those laws. None of them are single issue voters. The are the majority of voters in 14 States. The majority.

27. It really is bizarre. It's disappointing to me that anyone on the left would want to alter
themselves with any kind of chemical. I mostly gave up alcohol 15 years ago.

That said, I think drugs should be legalized because the war on them isnt working and is causing more problems than I think they are solving.

But I can hardly go to Los Angeles anymore because it smells like the bottom of a bong, and there are teenagers on every street corner asking for money for "medical research", it's pathetic. They need to get rid of 75% of the Marijuana dispenceries in that town of potheads.

28. It IS just about medical MM
when you frame the question, why is the US attorney getting involved in what should be a local code enforcement issue? None. Other than intimidation. That is the seed of the grievance.

Is IS NOT strictly about MM when you frame the issue into one of abuse of the system and MM becoming corrupted as vehicle for sales to minors and others.
The answer to that is full on legalization, regulation, and taxation. And you dont like the smell and you dont like teens trying to score through a third party from a dispensary, then VOTE to legalize, regulate and tax when it comes up in 2012.

29. And who is selling it to the minors.....corrupt MM facilities
Those facilities need to be shut down hard. Just like liquor stores that sell to kids. The lack of any enforcement is destroying MM by making the government overreact.
