Poll: Cain surges, opens up 20-point lead on Romney
Zogby is saying Cain's closest competitor, Romney, is 20 points behind.

By Alexis Levinson - The Daily Caller | The Daily Caller – 3 hrs ago

In news sure to inject shock and awe into the Republican political primary season, a Zogby poll released Thursday showed Herman Cain leading the Republican field, topping former front-runner Mitt Romney by an astonishing 20 points. Cain would also narrowly edge out Obama in a general election, the poll found, by a 46“44 margin.

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, would lose by a point to the president, 40 percent to 41 percent. Texas governor Rick Perry, who has slipped in the polls of late, would lose to the president 45 percent to 40 percent.

The poll found that 38 percent of Republican primary voters said they would vote for Cain if the primary were held today. Eighteen percent said they would throw their support to Romney, while 12 percent each said they would vote for Perry and Texas congressman Ron Paul. No other candidate attracted double-digit support.

This is the second month in a row in which Zogby has found Cain leading the pack; he has surged another 10 points ahead of his competitors since September. Romney, on the other hand, has remained in the same place, while Perry’s share of the primary vote in the Zogby poll has steadily declined since he announced his candidacy in August.

7. LOL. No kidding
I can't even recall the last time his polls were accurate. Whenever there's an election cycle, it seems like people are always laughing at his polls.

9. This, it's a useless poll
Still... that's quite a lead, and it reflects other, more credible polls.

11. What other poll has cain leading romney by 20pts? Other polls
may have cain leading, but I've seen none with him leading by 20pts.

3. I suspect an online poll which relies on people who essentially volunteer to be polled on regular
basis would be a bit top heavy with true believers. However, true believers are the ones more likely to show up and vote at caucuses and in primaries. So even if other polls don't show as dramatic a shift as this ...I suspect this poll is indicative of a trend. But the trend seems to be a party in search of a true believer alternative to Mitt Romney.

4. Cain is on a book-selling tour. He is a fraud.
He has no money or organization to speak of, has no people in either Iowa or New Hampshire, and instead of meeting with potential donors spends all his time at local bookstores peddling his crap.

16. Must be an error in polling?
There is no way the racist rethuglicans nominate a 100% black man. This is being done so their favorite candidate can fly under the radar.

17. The error is teapers.
They love him. They see him as the anti-Obama. Voting for a black man will be acceptable if he's one of them. Besides, he'll have to pick a good, Christian, white conservative for VP...hopefully, Sarah. That way, they're just "positive" they'll get the entire black AND female vote! I mean, everyone knows that blacks and women don't vote on issues, just color and gender. :eyes:

I sure as hell hope he gets the nomination. I think that will be the final match that makes the GOP explode.

19. I wondered if this might happen. Cain's economic proposal contains the largest giveaway to the rich
that this country has ever seen.

9% flat tax on everyone. I am sure the wealthiest 1% is lining up for the guy.

20. I doubt if Cain will get the nomination. But wouldn't it be something if two black men ran against
other for President of the United States? Until President Obama got elected to most observers it was unthinkable that a black person could be elected president. And now just three short years later, another African American is a legitimate contender for the opposition party's nomination.
