Poll question: IF Joe Biden was unable to run with President Obama who would you like to see on the ticket as VP?
Edited on Sun Oct-09-11 02:52 AM by Tx4obama

IF for some reason Joe Biden was unable to run with President Obama who you like on the ticket as VP?

I can't remember previously seeing a poll regarding this hypothetical situation, so here goes.

1. Barbara Mikulski
With Biden, I liked the idea of having a Senate-wise working class smart-alecky type as VP.

2. I've met her--she can be MEAN when she's tired!!!!
She's a good Senator, though.

And that's the thing--we need every good Senator in the Senate!

3. I said Warren, but I really think she needs
to hold down Teddy's seat. She will probably be able to do more as a Senator than tied to the administration.

But damn! I like her style.

4. That's kinda how I feel about Grayson. We need Grayson in the Congress.
I would like to see him eventually in the Senate.
With Teddy Kennedy gone we need someone with a spine that can get things done over there! ;)

5. I think EW can do more good in the Senate at this stage in her life.
She can get on some key committees and work for some substantive change.

Anyone taking the VP job can act as a Super Leader and help herd cats, but the influence is not as hands-on. EW will be a wonderful policy-crafter and lawmaker, and that's what we need.

41. But the answer is ...
what difference does it make? Besides Cheney (and we see how chilling that was), who was the last VP to really have an effect on an administration?

I certainly wouldn't take anyone from the senate or house. Obama did too much of that with hit early appointments. We lost seats and influence. Maybe a nice old Lieutenant Governor. Someone that wouldn't be able to carry the state for Democrats at the next election.

11. Hicklenlooper (Gov of Colorado)
Edited on Sun Oct-09-11 07:22 AM by rpannier
Hicklenlooper has been a mayor and is now a governor.
So he's held/holding 2 major offices and unlike 'shall go nameless' mayor turned 1/2 term governor, turned full-time grifter. He was Mayor of a large city and has yet to quit his post as Governor (granted it took the Grifter a little over two years to quit).
Another plus, he knows it's the Attorney General, not the Secretary of Law.

Schweitzer would be good, too.
Not Cuomo. He seems to be close to too many questionable money interests.

I haven't seen Hicklenlooper tied to any Koch or ALEC groups -- maybe I missed the stories

As for the current president. I'm not really sure what he is. It takes more than a (D) after someone's name to make them a Democrat.

About the only thing she'd take at this stage is a VP appointment if anything happened to Biden.

Other than that, she's wrapping up a fine career.

49. They do--but she's had enough, at least that's what she's said.
I have no doubt, assuming good health, that she could go for another twenty years, sharp as a tack, at least.

The question is of DESIRE, though--and I think she's had enough. Her job, in many ways, is harder than that of the President. It's like being an XO or Chief of Staff at a major command--you're run ragged and never have time to even sit down. She's logged way more miles than he has, and he hasn't been sitting on his ass by a long shot.

39. OBVIOUSLY Elizabeth Warren would not be considered for the VP nomination for one single second -
Edited on Mon Oct-10-11 04:55 AM by Douglas Carpenter
if for no other reason - than because she has never held elected public office. Give her a few years in the Senate - then it might very well be plausible. Until then you might as well be suggesting Johnny Depp. Except most Americans have heard of Johnny Depp - Outside of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and certain progressive circles and perhaps some political-news junkies - very few people have ever even heard of Elizabeth Warren. If one wanted to suggest a progressive star - then Bernie Sanders of course. Although I doubt very much he would be offered and he would quite likely not be willing to accept it.
