It's not to help Mittens....nothing to see here
DENVER - 9NEWS has received many calls and emails from viewers who have seen new commercials, including here Channel 9, that show people celebrating their Mormon faith.
The TV ads are running nationwide.
In Denver, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has also put up 22 billboards around the city.
With former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney ahead in the Republican presidential primary polls, his Mormon faith is drawing attention.
The church says the campaign is not to help Romney get elected. It says the purpose is to simply help the public better understand Mormons and their faith.
http://www.9news.com/news/local/article/224155/346/New-ad-campaign-shows-Mormons-celebrating-faith-They have great timing. Two republican presidential candidates in a heated race are Mormon, Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman. And local politicians Russell Pearce and Jerry Lewis have two things in common: they want to represent Mesa in the state senate, and they are members of the Mormon church. Packard says the timing is just coincidence.
"It was in the planning over 4 years ago as a result of the research we did that people just didn't know Mormons," she said.
"The political campaigns that are running both locally and nationally, the temples that are being built, raise questions in people's minds," said David LeSueur, a position holder within the church. We asked him if the campaign is also an effort to revamp the church's image and separate itself from notorious figures like Warren Jeffs. LeSueur says admits its important that people know the distinction, calling them "a group that has nothing to do with our religion."
Because the Mormon population in the valley is growing, two more temples are also under construction, one in Gilbert and one in Phoenix. You can expect those be to complete in 2013.
