1. OWS is primarying Obama in a much more potent way than a single candidate could.

3. FFS.
You couldn't be more wrong. This movement is not about your hatred of Obama.

Get out of your chair and come join us for a couple days instead of spreading hatred and falsehoods on the internet.

18. I get it alright.
You want to coopt the movement and make it about Obama.

Those of us out here dont need that kind of help.

Do you think everyone joining us in Europe today are out to primary Obama?

Pathetic.

Have work to do here. I suppose you have more bashing to do.

Have a good day.

I am an active participant, both here in PA and in NYC.

Your knee-jerk tendency doesn't help your case - in this or anything else you post about here.

30. +1 billion, Frog. Some folks are practically peeing themselves hoping/wishing for OWS
to "take on" Obama. They hate the man so much they conclude that everyone else does as well.

OWS has proven time and again it ain't about this president. Many of the president's strongest supporters also support OWS. But the deluded keep waiting for OWS to "turn" on Obama completely missing the entire point, meaning and thrust of those protests.

4. Always looking for a short cut
That's the left. No, nothing will be a short cut for working to get people elected to lower offices.

12. And to all other voters who are not part of it
That is, the majority.

There's no miraculous short cut. It takes electing people to state legislatures. Sitting around letting Republicans take those and hoping that the Presidency trumps all that is plain foolish.

Do you have some reason to think protesters won't vote or work for candidates they believe in?

7. OWS is an indictment of the entire power structure, including the leaders of both parties.
It isn't so much a bid to replace Obama as candidate as a rejection of the goals of the extremely small group (1 percent) whose money and outsize influence control the mainstream Democrats and the GOP.

OWS is a rejection of the letter and the mean spirit of the Citizens United decision that equates corporations with people and raises the former over the interests of the vast majority of the latter.

15. A primary implies contesting the nomination. Don't think OWS is interested
Edited on Sat Oct-15-11 10:44 AM by leveymg
in getting involved in intra-party nominations and selections, other than in a general sense of wanting to see the most progressive (democratic) Democrats run and win U.S. elections at all levels, and officeholders to embrace more people-empowering policies. OWS is about registering the the majority's thirst for changed politics and policies, not so much endorsement of specific candidates or parties. Obviously, the vast majority of OWS are progressive Democrats who support progressive Democrats, of whom there are precious few.

I understand what you're saying, and largely agree.

22. Agree - if one could selectively primary Obama's policies, OWS is doing just that.
OK. Getting out into the streets is a sort of public no-confidence vote - OWS voting with their feet and backsides, so to speak -- and a rejection of the corporatist, neo-liberal slip and fall of the Obama White House and the Democratic leadership.

You could call that a sort of primary battle that avoids being truly divisive or becoming embroiled in Party factionalism.

I voted for a reasonable Liberal Democrat. We got a Right of Center Corporatist, beholden to Wall Street. So, yeah, Primary Obama.

32. Another one. "If you don't support Obama whole-heartedly, something bad will happen."
Forget the whole threat/coercion aspect of your OP, forget the anti-democratic aspect of it, forget the insulting "how dare you think you should be able to seek better representation, to vote your conscience" aspect of it, forget the possibility the party could emerge with a stronger candidate, one who truly would stand up for our values. Forget all that for a minute, and tell me, if Obama can't withstand a challenge from within his own party, what chance does he stand against a ruthless repuke party?
