Obama is far beyond the quaint notion of declaring war. Obama is merely sending "freedom bombs" as reminders of our country's unrivaled love of freedom to other countries that may forgotten that fact.

...which we probably wouldn't even get involved in, but its at a point where a little effort well-placed should end it quickly. If you read about the group involved its easy to see why it is worthwhile, though as in other things the direct benefits go largely elsewhere. Sometimes that's the way trying to do good goes.

Geek, have you figured out the US is living on borrowed money?

WE are getting poorer. WE do not have the money to spend overseas. But maybe you're fine with teachers here being let go? How about getting rid of home nurses for the aged and disabled? How about cuts to medicaid, medicare? How about no COLA for Social security recipients.

Whoever you are we are BROKE. And these wars are about securing oil supplies! Read up.

37. Assuming people are ignorant who may have studied these issues for decades is unfair
Edited on Sun Oct-16-11 03:52 AM by Mimosa
DU members for the most part are serious and well informed on issues we care about. Our educational levels -whether academic or self educated- tend to be far higher than average political discussion board members. In defending obama you are bashing many people, some who are scholars, without knowing or caring how we reached out opinions. And opinions might change if situations improve.

President Obama has not shown any characteristics which qualify him for 'worship' although many of us like him and admire some of his accomplishments. (Any presidency is a work in progress. )

We can only hope the administrations policies will help lead us into an economy in which we can SURVIVE. Do you know how many Americans are living hand to mouth, even hoping for part time work which doesn't happen? Or people who are in a 'waiting line for foodstamps and have a 2 to 4 year wait for housing? How about the elderly who live on Social Security but haven't received a COLA adjustment in years and have to cut back on their FOOD? I know quite a few people who can't afford good food, new clothes.

But there is always money for wars.

65. WorkingClassZero, you're emotional...but...
I believe in the absence of legal conscription -called 'the draft, selective service- the corporate overlords needed to figure out how to induce free people to join the military. Thus many factories and manufacturing got 'outsourced'. The price of college educations became too costly for most middleclass people. BUT if a young person agreed to join the Armed Services certain benefits including education, health care etc became accessible.

So we now have what's called a 'poverty draft'.
