5. It's very ugly here. And it's a safe bet that
it WASN'T a "drive-by troll". It seems to be becoming the norm.

16. It's not necessarily "ugly" to disagree with President Obama.
Edited on Sun Oct-16-11 11:11 AM by totodeinhere
I thought that a forum like this existed so that we could discuss these things. Or is it just supposed to be an Obama cheerleading section? People who will unrec this might do it to show their disagreement with his sending troops to Africa, or to his support for so-called free trade agreements, or any number of other things.

19. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with Obama, but you would think. . .
. . .that a thread celebrating his speech at the MLK Memorial could be launched without folks using it as an occasion to bash him just one more time, no?

24. I understand. But remember that a lot of people are angry and lashing out right now
and they don't know what to do. And under circumstances like this they will take just about any opportunity that they have to express that frustration with anyone in authority, from the president on down. Is it fair to President Obama? Well, I don't think so but I understand it. And if you are going to be president you have to accept that you are going to take a certain amount of flack no matter what you do.

. . .the place to bash him they have problems.

30. Agreed. Jumping on every remotely positive thread about the President
is not activism - it's deliberate provocation in many cases to goad people who aren't as angry as that poster.

Look, Pres. Obama is not one of us. Judge him by his actions.

22. Look, Pres. Obama is the last best hope for America.
He is the only thing standing between you and another 8 years of Republican domination. Yeah, it might be good for Dennis Kucinich or John Edwards (lol, remember him) but it's really bad for America.

Sometimes, there really is a big picture, not just a series of small one's.

23. No, The People are the best hope for America. That is what
our government is supposed to be about. The President is our employee. The politicians need a reminder of who they really work for. I think they are beginning to get the message of how dissatisfied people are with their workers.

25. There's a reason he survived the demolition derby of the 2008 primaries...
Shit all of over him for poor reasons - I have yet to see any demonstrative evidence that he is in the pockets of Wall Streets. I don't think President Obama is just another politician, I don't think that of most of our Democratic representatives. The people are failing themselves over and over again because they are not educated - sometimes leadership is required and respect is demanded by decorum - we have no guillotine in this country.

Where in the Constitution does it say that "the President is our employee?" He is not an employee, he is a fellow citizen who has been elected to hold the office for a certain duration. That is not the definition of employment. He cannot be removed in a simple vote of no confidence like in so many other governments. This was done by design. There is no recall provision in the U.S. Constitution only conviction of "high crimes and misdemeanors" by the Congress in accordance with the supervision of SCOTUS.

"Democracy... while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide."
-John Adams

26. I don't know why you would bring Kucinich in on this.
I'm sure that he would be the first to agree that we cannot let the Republicans take control again. But I think that the best way forward is to put everything out on the table and discuss it, including things that Obama has done that we agree with and things that we don't agree with. We can't just bury our heads in the sand and blindly follow anyone including Obama. Not only do we need to reelect Obama but we also need to hold his feet to the fire, otherwise his mere reelection won't be enough and corporate interests will continue to rape this country and pick it clean whether Obama is in office or not. A good start would be for Obama to fire Geithner and all of the other cronies from Wall Street who have infected his administration.

27. The problem seems to be that there is an unwillingness to listen to the reasoning...
...from both sides. With so many here for so long it has been a one way street - harass our elected Democrats - they have no idea what they're doing - when they try to explain themselves just shout them down louder. That is a "Tea Party" tactic - do you not remember the town halls of 2010?

He has a duty to serve the best interests of the whole country - near term and long term. He might be best described as a "trustee."

The irony of the current debate so many are having is that they think it without precedence:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_treaty

Requisitions are actually little better than a jest and a bye word through out the Land. If you tell the Legislatures they have violated the treaty of peace and invaded the prerogatives of the confederacy they will laugh in your face. What then is to be done? Things cannot go on in the same train forever. It is much to be feared, as you observe, that the better kind of people being disgusted with the circumstances will have their minds prepared for any revolution whatever. We are apt to run from one extreme into another. To anticipate & prevent disasterous contingencies would be the part of wisdom & patriotism.

3. I just tuned in to catch Rev. Sharpton's talk
Love how he called out the attempts to overturn voting rights and to save taxes on the backs of the poor. My sister's been watching since the beginning and said those types of things have been the running theme.

I suspect the President will continue.

The exhortations to get black voters to the polls to help keep civil rights intact has never been more important. The GOP/Tea Party can't wait to dismantle it all at the first opportunity.

17. The fact that you launched an OP questioning the POTUS standing with the people on THIS day
says a lot too, as did your stance in that OP showing it to be not much more than a fishing expedition for people to pile on to denigrate the President as a corporatist while he speaks at this dedication.
