Jonathan Alter: The Obama Miracle, a White House Free of Scandal
President Barack Obama goes into the 2012 with a weak economy that may doom his reelection. But he has one asset that hasn’t received much attention: He’s honest.

=========

And you can bet the right-wing dirt machine has been working overtime to find anything they can use to bring the President down. It is remarkable so far the best they have come up with is the idiotic birth certificate non-sense. To me the most important aspect of a politician is integrity... and our President has a ton of it.

3. Solyanda never really got off the ground. Too bad.
Namely because nothing illegal was done. It was a bad business decision to loan them the money, but no crimes were committed.

5. Yeah, they really tried hard to turn that non-scandal into a scandal.
Shows how desperate they are to find something.

7. Not to mention the total lack of sitcom gag material.
Saturday Night Live is having a tough time with this President. It's about time nine "wordless wonders" stepped up to take the pressure off.

Fer shit's sake, the only thing they've had to work with for the past three years was "Michele Obama went sleeveless again." What's THAT about?

8. For sure. But seems they have tons of material now with the morans running for GOP nom.
I thought SNL might miss Palin in the spotlight but the Republicans seem to have an endless supply of wacko politicians who make for great parody.

15. "Parody"? They write their own jokes. It's more like a guilty pleasure.
Any moran could be a comedian these days just by simply repeating their talking points.

No need to make fun, just repeat the talking points, and you're hysterically funny.

10. He's lived a good life by his beloved mother's rules. Michelle also keeps him honest, so to speak.

I consider him to be a role model - as a husband, father, and public servant - for any man to emulate.

14. The best thing he has going for him is no independent council law
give a rouge prosecutor, unlimited time, unlimited money, and unlimited power and he or she can find something on anyone, no matter how clean they are. It does help that Obama has been clean but so was Clinton. They spent literally millions and millions of dollars investigating his administration and got zero convictions on anyone for anything done while working for Clinton and only one of an appointee of his (Cisernos for lying about the amount he paid a previous mistress before he was appointed).

27. They don't have subpeona power, but I have no doubt the right has put in the same effort.
Think of all they money they've spent trying to destroy him in the media and in the economy, and really, could they NOT be directing some of that to trying to find a sex scandal or stupidity? Hell, Clinton not doing anything illegal didn't stop them from finding Dick Morris, and plenty of innuendo.

16. Obama is guilty of a far worse crime!
Obama has not satisfied everyone in the Democratic party & needs to be taught a lesson! So, the future of the middle class, unions, women's rights, gay rights, science, etc., must be sacrificed in order to teach Obama a lesson! So, many will not vote for POTUS, many others will vote for a 3rd Party candidate like Nader should he run & some will vote GOP all to teach Obama a very valuable lesson.

This is a common practice us democrats have been doing over the past 30yrs & it has worked wonders not only for our party but for the middle class! When Carter was challenged it allowed Reagan to get elected teaching Carter a very valuable lesson & the middle class gained in flat wages & Christianity shoved down our throats as a way to cope! When we voted for Nader instead of Gore & Bush won, or was selected, we taught Gore a very valuable lesson & the middle class gained in losing their jobs!

Now it is Obama's turn to be taught a very valuable lesson & the middle class, unions, woman's rights, gay rights, science, etc., will gain in ways no one can imagine...Especially when the GOP POTUS gets to appoint two more Supreme court justices giving the GOP a 7-2 hold on the SCOTUS for the next 30yrs!

It is so fun to be cynical in a time when we should all be united! FUN FUN FUN!

25. Very succinctly put. "You have to destroy the village in order to save it".
For most of us, it seems like some pretty eff'd up logic, but there you have it. :hi:

… and if their best minds are anything like their best Presidential Candidates … I’m sure the President isn’t losing any sleep over it.

26. It's a scandal to seek to lie in response to Freedom of Information requests.

It's a scandal to seek to lie in response to Freedom of Information requests.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x2185303

It's a scandal to pressure attorneys general for settlements that protect corrupt banks from criminal investigations.
http://upload.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1795232

It's a scandal to trash the Democratic Party ideals and platform by putting 650 billion dollars worth of cuts in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid on the table and waging an extended campaign to have them accepted.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1660734&mesg_id=1661130

It's a scandal when your administration prompts an ACLU report expressing alarm at destruction of civil liberties at a pace equal to or faster than that of the Bush administration.
http://politics.salon.com/2011/09/07/liberties_3/singleton

No shortage of scandals here. People are protesting in the streets across the country now, just three short years after having swept him into office with great enthusiasm and both houses of Congress. Why? Because they see that both of our parties are controlled by corporate interests now, and they have lost confidence that change is possible at the ballot box.
