Obama has a Dem opponent in NH--Darcy Richardson of FL
(well, I guess Hart2008 was right--President Obama got a challenger):

Darcy Richardson, a Democrat, reached out to former Labor Secretary Robert Reich and Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich, trying to find a progressive Democrat to run as a protest vote against President Obama.

When nobody stepped forward, the 55-year-old advertising manager and financial services consultant decided to run.

“I don’t think Obama’s been a fighter for the poor or working class,” Richardson said. “He’s done nothing to turn the economy around.”

Richardson feels Obama squandered the first two years of his presidency pushing for his health care bill, rather than addressing the economy. He believes the economic stimulus bill should have been bigger.

Richardson, who now lives in Florida, lost races in Pennsylvania in the 1980s for state auditor general and US senator. He worked for Senator Eugene McCarthy’s 1988 and 1992 presidential campaigns.

5. Yeah,
<...>

Between 1989 and 1992, Richardson served as the National Chairman of the New Democrats, a liberal reformist group that included Eugene McCarthy and Gary Hart.<2>

...welcome "New Democrat" and "liberal reformist."

Progressive? OK!

6. hmm, weren't the 'new democrats' a centrist organization whose mission it was to nominate fewer
liberals--and more centrists who could win general elections?

"weren't the 'new democrats' a centrist organization whose mission it was to nominate fewer liberals--and more centrists who could win general elections?"

...you wonder, doesn't it?

I have a theory that a lot of these poseurs don't really want progress. They're simply trying to throw a monkey wrench in to disrupt the process.

Not sure why: Is it about their finances? Is it about some social program? What ever it is, they seem OK with handing victories to the Republicans.

I noticed Alex Cockburn on his blog. Mr. "Gore = Bush" himself.

Now why would a so-called "New Democrat" go their? Poseur?

Sort of like Nader pushing Bloomberg.

7. Interestingly in 1972 in NH Richard Nixon received 67.6% of the GOP primary vote
vs. two opponents--19.8% for Rep Paul McCloskey of CA & 9.7% for Rep. John Ashbrook of Ohio. Despite approximately 1/3 of the GOP vote abandoning Nixon he went on to win a landslide re-election victory in November.

17. It's a Southern thang
My husband was born in the South, and his middle name is Lynn. Not a family name or anything (he's Jewish fer heaven's sake), but definitely what we northerners would think of as a female name.

24. What about people who don't "hate" (ever-dramatic DU) Obama, but think we can do better?
What about people who actually care more about helping those in need as jobs disappear and wealth is vacuumed upwards, care more about the future of the nation, more than they care about the future of ANY politician?

I'm glad to see a challenger. Hope he tuns into a serious one. Let's get the issues that need attention front and center.

Some people believe in democracy, rather than fear it.

27. Congratulations on your tepidness for President Obama
I'm sure your mystery candidate will, when elected, get everybody a job, tax the rich at 90%, eliminate all our wars, get single payer, and give you a pony. Oh yeah, and run roughshod all over the Senate and House that is opposed to him like they have opposed everything President Obama has tried to get through them that helps those in need of a job, redistributes wealth, and provides for the future of the United States Of America.

Who's your candidate.....and why aren't they running?

Please, give us a candidate willing to fight for rather than abandon true Democratic core principles.

Let's have a little democracy.

Wonder if the OWSers would have a problem with Obama being challenged?

who filed, NONE, including this latest one, are considered "serious."

41. The "He's done nothing to turn the economy around" is a pile of HORSESHIT ! Piss on this NUT.
Thanks so much, whacko asshole, for helping the ReFUCKlicans. Obama has tried like hell to "turn the economy around." Take a fucking economics 101 class. ANY idiot with a pea for a brain knows we went through the largest GLOBAL recession in 75 years. How about Spain, Italy, Greece, and Iceland? How about England? ALL are struggling. Japan has had economic woes for years. Are all their leaders "doing nothing"???

This person is STUPID. Obama did the stimulus, has passed other bills to stimulate the economy, passed a second "education" stimulus, and now trying to pass another jobs bill. And he has had to deal with moderate/conservative Senate Dems and now more pukes in the Senate and a Puke House. What a shithead this person is. A real NO BRAIN fool.
