OFA volunteers "stole in under cover of night & stayed, undetected...'It was very scary'"says NC GOP

Hey, Republicans ..... BOO!

Team Obama Gears Up for 2012

By JIM RUTENBERG

Published: November 26, 2011

AS North Carolina Republicans tell it, the Obama for America volunteers stole in under cover of night and stayed, undetected — noticed belatedly only because of election results across the state.
“It was very scary,”
said Chris Sinclair, a strategist for Billie Redmond, the Republican candidate for mayor in Raleigh. “You don’t know what’s going on until you wake up after Election Day and go, ‘Oh my gosh, what happened?’

What happened was that candidates supported by Democrats trounced Republicans
in the Raleigh and Charlotte mayoral races this fall, and even wrested control of the Wake County school board from Republicans associated with the Tea Party.
It was only after the damage was done that local party leaders learned of the hidden hand of thousands of Obama for America volunteers and staff members. Never publicizing their work, they went door-to-door across the state, successfully getting their voters out to the polls in a highly effective dry run for 2012.

Mr. Obama’s aides point to the victories in North Carolina and elsewhere as vindication of their insistence that all is not as bleak for them as the Democratic chatter has it. But, in a series of interviews about their strategy for the year ahead, they also indicated that they knew they were in for a feisty slog, one that would look and feel quite different from Mr. Obama’s first, uplifting presidential campaign.

Back in the short-lived “recovery summer” of 2010, Mr. Obama and his aides were looking at a version of Ronald Reagan’s 1984 “Morning in America” campaign. Now, with unemployment stubbornly at 9 percent and consumer confidence at or near record lows, they are settling on a strategy that incorporates the combativeness of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1936 drive, the anti-Congress zeal of Harry S. Truman’s 1948 campaign and the disciplined focus of George W. Bush’s 2004 blitz against Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts.

3. the saddest thing
is that all the violence was for unnecessary junk: X Boxes, T.V.'s, and waffle irons. It wasn't for food, or water.

5. Congratulation to the Democrats from NC
You know, I understand why the Republicans are so pissed off. Sometimes I forget where I put things, especially my shoes which can be kicked off at any time, anywhere. So, knowing how I tend to be scatterbrained, I spend hours thinking about the crazy places where I could have left them. Did I kick them under the computer desk? Are they in the living room? Bathroom? By the front door? The backdoor?

And then I really, really get pissed off, when I find them properly put away in the shoe rack. So, I can understand why the Republicans are so pissed off when they got beat by good old fashion political door-to-door canvasing. They just never saw it coming.

19. Absolutely! the OFA team has been knocking on my door constantly
Edited on Sun Nov-27-11 08:35 PM by KoKo
even while I'm blow drying my hair and only hear the doorbell (which doesn't always work) and I have to rush down and there are the cheerfull and welcoming OFA Volunteers who took the time to wait for me ...even though my hair wasn't ready for "Prime Time." I told them that "Yes" I LOVE OBAMA and they can count on me in this election...but that my "hair isn't ready for Prime Time" and I need some Botox around my eyes and I'm hoping Obama will understand that those of us over 50 really need some health care help so that we can get coverage for our BOTOX Treatments...since Medicare just won't budge on this.

I need a JOB and I don't look young enough and am told that I need a "Touch Up" and I was given a card at a "Job Fair" to visit the plastic surgeon who was on the card. I called him and he asked me..."What is your insurance covrage? I replied..I'm still working it out.

27. I can't tell if this is humor or serious.
You do know age discrimination is illegal, right? And that cosmetic enhancement (such as BOTOX) is medically dangerous, with no health benefits?

Seriously, how ignorant of the man does someone have to be in order to ask such a question?

15. Some on the left are turning him into as much of a caricature as the RW is.
It is as nasty and divorced from reality as the Republicans. In fact, they frequently spout the same talking points.

9. good to see that OFA is helping defeat Republicans
rather than Democrats, like they did in the Colorado Senate primary - backing Michael Bennet over Andrew Romanoff.

22. no.
the actions of Obama and his OFA in the CO primary were unprecedented. It's why the only support he'll ever get from me is my vote if he is the nominee, and that only because the alternative is worse.

what transpired in Colorado says a lot about who Obama really is - if he showed half the enthusiasm fighting Republicans that he showed in getting his Wall Street bagman Bennet elected, we'd all be in a better place today.

That's all it was.

24. no sitting President has EVER gone to the extent
Obama did in a COMPETITIVE primary in supporting one candidate over another.

Period.

You make it sound like it was "business as usual". It wasn't. Do some research - maybe the scales will fall from your eyes concerning Obama.

Hero worship only goes so far.

the primary race between Bennet and Romanoff is illustrative of everything that's wrong in the Democratic Party, and Obama and his team are part of it

29. such a shallow reply
what an absolutely shallow and empty response on your part.

I post real concerns about the Democratic party and Obama's actions within that party - real things, things that have been done, and all you can do is attack me personally.

I keep hearing from Obama's stalwarts that what he needs is more progressive Democrats elected to the Senate in order to get Obama's agenda passed. Well, we had a chance here in Colorado to elect a candidate who was running as a true progressive, and who would have won in the general - and what did Obama do? He interfered in our state's primary - interfered in a way that was unprecedented in the history of the party - to make sure that the more moderate candidate - the candidate with the DC and Wall Street money connections - won the nomination.

Which puts the lie to to the notion that Obama's agenda is not in line with the big money DC/Wall Street agenda, IMHO. What happened in Colorado revealed the Obama administration's hand like nothing else that he has done. I'm not surprised that you or the rest of his most ardent supporters have been unwilling to discuss the matter. To do so might force you to question the reasons for your own "support"...
