If you could ask Obama one question, what would it be?
My question would be:

"Mr. President, on which platform would you run your reelection campaign?"
Seriously, what has he left to run on?
Change? Nope.
Fiscal discipline? Nope.
Reigning in on the causes of the recession? Nope.
Ending unpopular and expensive wars? Nope.
Restoring America's moral high ground? Nope.

1. I don't think I'd get a usable answer
We all get annoyed (or at least I do) with those reporters who seem to have to have a two-minute speech before they can pose a question in a press conference. But establishing context seems to be an absolute necessity anymore if you want the person being questioned to address the issue you want to bring up.

I'd put the president to sleep establishing a contextual basis before I ever got to a question.

"Yes we can!" has become "No, we probably can't. And certainly not if it'll make the GOP mad."

21. Who said anything about him wanting the job?
The OP was asking what one question we would ask him. That would be my question. All presidents want the job and none of them realize what they are getting into and all get beat to a pulp to some degree. The difference between you and me is that if Hillary had become president I would have had her back during the most difficult of times.

24. I know you would have
but you don't have Obama's back. Your "poor thing" comment speaks volumes about your degree of support for this Democratic president even though Hillary Clinton is one, if not the most important cabinet member, in his administration.

Hillary's name. I'm 72 and in my lifetime I so very much wanted to see a woman prez. Peace. We're Democrats to our dying day.

9. Mr. President
during the health reform debacle, is it true that you had already bargained away the Public Option to the Insurance Cartels so that while the rest of us were still hoping for it, it was no longer on the table and available?

13. What have you done for me lately concerning the following issues important to me:

Gay Rights.
Regulating the speculators and bankers that caused the recession.
Protecting SS and Medicare for my generation.
Ending the wars, and ending occupation/redeployments of unregulated contractor forces.
Structuring the tax system so that the wealthy pay their fair share.
Closing GITMO, and bringing about accountability of the part of the gov't for torture/coercement activities.
Protecting my privacy from electroninc spying and ensuring net neutrality.

I know I would not get an answer to this question worth a warm cup of piss. So If I were to ever meet the Prez in person I'd probably just give him a dirty look and turn my back to him.

19. Should have kept us in the loop from day one...........
CONSISTENTLY like FDR did!

(What was it called back then....radio/fire-side chats?)

IF your intentions were as you said to begin and the reason why you were voted in the first place....ya should have just kept us all in the loop, bro all along - and not be afraid to voice where your opposition lay...good, bad or otherwise - but I suspect that might have taken some real courage.

We thought you were that courageous person. (shrug) Guess we were wrong!

Ya missed the boat on that one I'm afraid. By a looong shot, as it turns out. You left it up to the media sharks....much to your own chagrin, I might add ~ trying to be all things to all people when in the end -

Too bad you are/were out of contact with you ole pals at the local barber shop in Chicago who really knew the score and lived it day in and day out...for I am sure that they would have kept you to your word and held your feet to the ground!!!!!!!!

I think that you started out with a really good heart and equally good intentions but lost your way. Listened and surrounded yourself (by YOUR choice) with some really irresponsible folks all in the vein of *positioning yourself* in just the right light to try and please all - but in the end...it bites hard now doesn't it? I mean.....REALLY hard!!!!!!!!

Should have just stuck to your guns from day one and let the chips fall where they may!

22. I have a few -
"Why is Corporate America apparently dictating all of our vital policies and what will this Administration, which billed itself as that of "Change" and a reversal of the disastrous Bush Administration, do to let working and unemployed Americans know that's not the case? I want you to be one hundred percent HONEST when you answer this, by the way."

"Is there a hidden reason why you're allowing Mitch McConnell to have any sort of voice at all, let alone dictate tax cut terms?"

"When is the Fairness Doctrine going to be restored?"

"How has Gramm/Leach/Bliley helped the economy?"

"Do you realize that not one net new job has been created in 10 years time, during which the wealthy have had their longest period of a lowest-since-the-depression TMTR? Did you also know that during that 10 years, the two strongest periods of hiring were when Clinton was still in office and in 2004, which happened to be Bush's re-election campaign?"

"Are our voting choices ever going to be better than 'Republican','Arch-right-wing nutjob', or 'Symbolic principled vote'?"

"Why are people with billions of dollars catered to and placated first, foremost, and often times, ONLY?"

"Why do you seem to consider progressives to be naive and ungrateful while you're all ears to the people who amazingly believe Trickle-Down economics always and still does work for the American people?"

"Hypothetical situation: A former administration conducted an invasion on a sovereign nation; one that never threatened or harmed ONE American citizen, which kills a million citizens and thousands of soldiers based on proven cooked evidence to outright falsehoods. How is that not a war crime?"

"When was the last time you visited a homeless shelter or walked through either an impoverished urban or rural area?"

"Have you ever witnessed a live foreclosure?"

"Why will you meet with CEOs but not the unemployed?"

"Why is there always money to either kill or fire people but never a cent to help people?"

"What is going to be done about the soaring, exorbitant price of higher education in this country?"

"What is this country going to do about unbridled corporatism and runaway profit & wealth at the expense of everything and everyone else?"

30. You wanna hit this?
Seriously though, I'd probably ask him something like "Did the astronauts REALLY take Tang into space?" That was my question to Buzz Aldrin when came to my elementary school and I was selected to ask a question during the assembly. My chance to ask the second human ever to set foot on the moon something important, and that's all I could come up with.

Hey, I might not be a smart adult, but I sure was a dumb kid.
