Jon Stewart: Bin Laden death photos can’t be worse than CSI
Source: RawReply

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart argued Wednesday for the U.S. to release photos showing Osama bin Laden’s dead body even though they’re reportedly very gruesome and could incite additional violence.

“Too gory?” Stewart wondered. “Yeah, have you met us?”

“From 8 p.m. on, every show on television we watch begins with an internal tracking shot of a gaping wound above someone’s left eye, pulling out only to reveal half a hooker in a dumpster discovered by a child on a bicycle. You know what we call it? Primetime.”

Come on, man, we can take the gore,” he continued.

“The extremists over there already hate us and I don’t know if you know this, but the Muslim world sees pretty graphic images of people we kill on purpose or accidentally all the time.”

1. One of my best friends works on CSI
I get "insider" photos from him all the time. They do some pretty cool effects.

3. The quoted claims are true, but I believe President Obama was concerned about the photo becomming a
trophy and/or a rallying cry.

6. Yep that was my take on this too
Besides all evidence shows that photos won't stop the crap of people believing OBL was dead as photos of other dead terrorists released did, not with photo shopping that happens. Look at the recent R's who claimed to have seen the photos that later were found out to be fakes, people believe what they want no matter what the truth is.

10. Exactly
"Gory" has nothing to do with it, but those who are demanding the photo be released (who will, in all likelihood, simply say it's fake) will make up whatever excuses they want.

4. Fair point
about us Americans. But thinking about that statement, I don't think POTUS was referring to us. I think he was talking about the photos being missused in the Islamic world to incite further violence.

Yeah, nevermind these pics will be leaked elsewhere though.

5. he made a valid point last night, maybe if the US saw the gore of war
there would be more resistance against invasions.

I still believe not showing the Bin Laden photo was correct.

8. Can't be any worse than the fakes that are being broadcast all over the
Arab world, either. Letting the fakes go unanswered is not a good idea.

11. They've been answered. The U.S. is not releasing a photo.
The end.

13. You ignored my point.
And, I seriously doubt it is the end. The WH is not going to officially release the photos. Someone in the CIA likely will leak them at some point.

12. Much, much better...
...was when he said perhaps we should see OBL's images, and the images of the maimed and torn of all injured by war. Because if we all in our gut understood what "war" really is, then perhaps we'd think carefully before engaging in it. Jon ended saying that it is not a video game with some goofy prize at the end - with the screen next to him Showing a twirling gold coin above a cheap video game landscape. A great piece, if you ask me.
