Northwoods Patriots leader Kim Simac announced Thursday that she'll challenge Sen. Jim Holperin of Conover in a recall election. In a statement, Simac says the district needs someone who will not "run away," referencing Holperin and other Democrats who fled the state in protest over an anti-union bill.
Six Republicans and three Democrats are being targeted for recalls for their support or opposition of the bill, which curtails collective bargaining rights for most public employees.
Four other candidates have announced they'll run against targeted senators. Most elections would likely be held on July 12, if called by election officials.
