Human Filth
Parents charged after children found locked up, surrounded by filth
By GLENN E. RICE

The Kansas City Star

Paul Jenkins

Bethany J. Jenkins
Clay County authorities today charged a Liberty couple with locking their five children in bedrooms filled with human waste.

Paul E. Jenkins and Bethany J. Jenkins, both 27, were charged with five counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The two are being held in the Clay County Detention Center after failing to post $100,000 bonds.

According to court records, police responded to the couple’s residence in the 600 block of North Gallatin on Tuesday after receiving a tip from a neighbor that Paul Jenkins was threatening his children with a knife.

The sad thing is they probably came from broken homes themselves. Thats the only reasoning for this I can come up with anyway.

And what really pisses me off is how the tea party claims that it is minorities popping out kids so they can get more money from the government.

Ignorance being number one... and poverty being the natural outcome of the ignorance.

Abuse and filth are unrelated to income. Some people are just plain horrible to their children regardless of how much they have in their 401k plan. Being poor does not make you force your children to wallow in their own shit.

I could buy that either ignorance or poverty was the cause.

But since they were living alright while the kids suffered then clearly there were other options available and they knew better.

They both work, but do not alot much for extras. Um, their kids have never "wallowed in their own shit".

My mother didn't grow up with much, but she went to school every day in clean clothes.

Being poor is NO EXCUSE for living in the conditions that these kids had to live in.

66. Facilitate I can buy, but being one or the other, or both, in poverty or being ignorant, I cannot.
I didn't have ignorant or poor parents, but was abused and beaten viciously as a child. Also, I had heterosexual parents, never knew what gay was, but knew as a 5 year old, that I was created differently. Nothing is written in stone and nothing is black and white, everything we think, and the meaning we put into things, comes from our own experiences, just because we believe it, or think it, doesn't make it a fact.

but you can't be a good parent if you don't keep your kid clean. Yeah.

And for these guys it isn't that they are merely inadequate parents.

Look at what you're defending for a moment.

Also look at the millions of people with less who do so much better than these two.

The poor and ignorant (not the same group, btw, though there is obvious overlap) will be unaffected. The repulsively evil and unredeemable are the folks being discussed here.

I'm disgusted that you keep conflating this horrific act of violent abuse and shocking neglect with poverty. Billions of poor people across the planet raise children in clean and loving homes every day.

do you give an arsonist a box of matches or a drunkard the keys to a car?

We generally like to take away things that people have demonstrated an inability to use responsible to such an extent that it harms others.

Oddly enough we do it for everything but kids. Guess it's not ok to smash up a car, but ruining a kids life? Meh.

65. You may be on to something Lou.
Republicans vote to cut funding for stuff like Planned Parent Hood and CPS, WIC and other social services. Background research on this story that happened a scant 30 miles from my back door tells me that these parents were reported to CPS not once, not twice but SEVERAL times by the teachers at the school the older children attended. So, not only were the parents a total failure, so was the social safety net such as, parenting classes, close supervision from CPS, mental health/drug/sex counseling, birth control etc. that might have done something to ameliorate the situation before it came to such tragic conclusion.

52. Put their children in that basement room at 8 pm and would not let them out
until the next morning?

Apparently the parents did not want their children "interfering" with whatever they liked/wanted to do at night. Drugs? Booze? both?

Swept their parental responsibilities under the proverbial rug, but it inevitably caught up to them.

It is bad enough when ONE parent refuses to share in or shirks his or her part in their childrens' upbringing, dumping all of it upon their perhaps also or sole job holding/working spouse, but obviously it is much worse when both or a one parent household, can not/will not try to provide a reasonably clean and safe environment for their child or children to live in. It is one thing to lack the money to provide adequate and decent sleeping/playing/dining/schoolwork arrangements and space, perhaps being very cramped or is by limitations and necessity being shared by perhaps too many children, but in this situation, it is likely borne out from pure laziness, indifference, selfishness, addictions, and/or sloth. 5 young children gradually became too overwhelming, and perhaps just as a result of slacking off, interruptions, and/or falling behind in home maintenance and cleaning up, it obviously became easier and easier to ignore/tolerate the filth or if their overnight out-of-sight, out-of-mind "storage" room in the basement was cleaned/organized at all, it was performed very infrequently and half-assedly if that.

61. Also, these children have a good chance of becoming angry, abusive adults themselves, foisted upon
the rest of us to deal with if they don't get some good counseling and foster parents. The damage from this abuse of children, spreads into our society if the abused child is not helped, by what is clearly a broken system. I wish us all good luck.

58. Let's "Reserve" Marriage for these types, along with having the custody of children. My partner and
I (together 18 years), could give more love, safety and stability to these kids than the majority of (married and or living together) heterosexual couples could ever offer, and they want to prevent us from adopting children. Sure, let these pigs have all the children they want to abuse, but accuse gay people of not being fit to raise children. What a warped country this is. The other day, I posted an op about a white power racist pig "dad" here in California, who so terrorized his little boy, that the 10 year old kid took one of his "fathers" guns and shot him dead. Take note parents who abuse their children and who have firearms in the house, children who are abused and pushed too far, can and will kill to protect themselves. Let's reserve all of the rights and protections in this country, for this "lovely" couple. Sick fuckers.
