"Citing the misuse of tax dollars and a potential danger to the public, N.J. lawmakers on Monday pushed for an investigation and legislative action following revelations of steroid use by hundreds of New Jersey law enforcement officers and firefighters.

In the Assembly, deputy speaker John McKeon called on Attorney General Paula Dow to open a criminal inquiry into what he called the illegal procurement of steroids and human growth hormone, as well as an examination of the problem’s extent.

Sens. Richard Codey and Loretta Weinberg, meanwhile, said they would hold a hearing on the issue before the Senate health committee in January. In addition, Weinberg (D-Bergen) said she would introduce legislation aimed at making it more difficult for officers and firefighters to fraudulently obtain the drugs with the aid of doctors.

The lawmakers’ actions came in response to a seven-month Star-Ledger investigation that found at least 248 officers and firefighters had obtained steroids, growth hormone and other muscle-building drugs from a Jersey City doctor who often falsified diagnoses to justify his prescriptions for the substances."

Steroids have been a problem in "uniformed" occupations for a while but for some reason they only think it affects baseball players. The same thing is rampant in the military too.

I have the beginnings of a beard..I am in the middle of changing.I have had all the surgeries except phalloplasy,Goddammit there is a shit load of hassle with getting me help,the state laws,my endocrinologist gets hassled..She argues with united health care assholes until finally gets it approved for another year.I put in my scrip thinking it's ok for another year..then the state says it won't accept a year long scrip for the patches it has to be in 6 month segments now..so now united won't approve it AGAIN even tho they just approved it for a year already because now the prescription number is different ( same thing but in two separate prescriptions instead one FOR THE SAME THING I've been on for almost two years..Had to redo it all to please the fucking state because of insecure men who have testosterone in their bodies at the correct levels already and have no gender issues which occur for me, on a biological level!!.. FUCK these stupid asshole people(biological males) who take steroids that DO NOT need them.Some guys have low T they need it,Trans guys need it, intersex folks need it,guys with endocrine disorders need it.Not douche bag cops who are aggressive enough,not body builders or firefighters or sports stars.Fuck these selfish assholes.
