Why I Fight (WI)
I started to compose a response to a FB Event Invite this morning, and my note evolved as I wrote. I thought I'd share it with you.

*****

When I was the Chief Elections Inspector for the Town of Middleton, I took great pride in the integrity of our election process. I obsessed over details, and even over the *appearance* of my activities and my work product. I was working for the Town when the new federal HAVA guidelines were implemented. The clerks and other elections officials that I trained with were conscientious, and were absolutely committed to running perfect and clean elections.

I am simply sick over the destruction of the process that we are witnessing in Waukesha and other Counties. I cannot imagine a small group of people having such disregard for our elections that they would be so careless as to leave ballot bags unclosed, and to scratch out numbers on certificates, or simply refuse to complete the reports because "they're too repetitive." And if it's not carelessness and laziness, it can be only one other thing - deliberate fraud.

The people's confidence in elections can be only as strong as the image presented to them when they vote. The officials in Waukesha County have destroyed all credibility in the process. They have shown us how easy it *would* be to tamper with an election. All it takes is one County Clerk who has control of the programmed prom packs, who orders the ballots from the printer and distributes them to the municipalities, who has additional supplies, such as bags and numbered seals on hand, who has the voted ballots in her own custody after election day, and who acts as though she is accountable to no one. That election is HER election - and while she could have, and should have treated it with respect, she instead treated it with contempt. We don't know yet whether she is just an arrogant, lazy person, or if she was delivering the election to those she admired, like a cat that brings the beheaded carcass of a mouse to the lap of its owner, "Look what I did for you."

As the Town's election official, I would have been horrified to see MY election treated with such disrespect by the County Clerk. I am sure that many of the municipal clerks in Waukesha County are simply stunned to witness what has happened to their elections. If I were a voter in Waukesha County, I would be livid, because I would never know if MY VOTE was counted, or if it was deliberately discarded in order to be replaced with a fraudulent ballot. As a Wisconsinite, growing up in the land of Bob LaFollette and Russ Feingold, I am heartbroken. Someone is trying to kill democracy, through abuse or neglect, in MY State, and I am not going to let it go down without a fight.

3. You are to be commended
For not only taking your civic responsibility seriously, but in recognizing the danger that this type of corruption poses to our democracy.

I do not understand why Democrats aren't yelling and screaming about election fraud being blatantly committed by Republicans all over the country. They should be on any cable or news program that would have them.

Instead, they allow Republicans to complain -- unchallenged -- about ACORN, or alleged massive vote fraud committed by Democrats, and then they stand by while Republicans ram through "reforms" that surgically target voters most likely to vote Democratic: students, the poor and the elderly.

So thank you, for your fighting spirit -- what can we do to help you?
