Atheists offer to rescue Christians’ pets after judgment day
WASHINGTON — When judgment day comes -- which some US Christian fundamentalists insist will happen on Saturday -- have you thought about what you're going to do with the family dog and cat?

In 26 US states, you could have them rescued and adopted by enterprising atheists who have set up a business to care for the animal companions of any Christians who are selected to go to heaven when Jesus Christ comes back.

"You've committed your life to Jesus. You know you're saved. But when the Rapture comes, what's to become of your loving pets who are left behind?" Eternal Earth-Bound Pets says on its website, offering to "take that burden off your mind."

The post-doomsday pet rescue service already has 259 clients, who have paid $135 for the first pet and $20 for each additional pet at the same address, to ensure the faithful animal companions are looked after and loved even when their Christian owners have gone to the other side.

According to the website, they cover the following states: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Illinois, Iowa. The last two are the newest states they cover.

4. Wow. They're actually paying for the service?
I'm not really sure what to say about that. Perhaps something along the lines of, "a fool and their money..."

6. who is to say that this company isn't going to make good on their rescue promises
post-rapture?

and if it doesn't occur, the money was clearly non-refundable - atheist adopters have been identified for MANY different breeds of animal......

looks like a heartfelt business deal to me.

For your rapture related correspondence, (after you're gone) also greeting cards, mugs, t-shirts.

13. I like this under terms and conditions
If subscriber loses his/her faith and/or the Rapture occurs and subscriber is not Raptured (aka is "left behind") EE-BP disclaims any liability; no refund will be tendered.

I guess they expect some of the chosen to "opt out" so they can keep the money.

My thought is that if they believe they're going to be carried away to Heaven and the dogs or cats aren't going to Heaven as well, they don't deserve a refund when it doesn't happen.

I think it's more likely that one day we wake up and all the dogs and cats have been spirited away to a better place. Most pet owners know that a dog or cat has a much purer soul than a human. Mine do.
