"The enraged crowd gathered in the capital of the northern province of Takhar, shouting 'Death to America’ and claiming the raid had killed two innocent men and two innocent women.
The protest of up to 2,000 people was the most recent in a series of increasingly violent demonstrations against Western strategy or tactics inside Afghanistan. Police said the crowd had been whipped up by agitators and then infiltrated by armed “opportunists and violence-seeking elements".
Hamid Karzai appeared to side with the protest however, condemning the raid and demanding an explanation from the senior coalition commander, Gen David Petraeus.
The protestors threw stones at a fortified German government compound in the town of Taloqan and police heard shots from the crowd according to senior officers..."
