Toles Rant;Wheels of justice turn slowly edition
By Tom Toles
And of course, they often don’t turn at all. But at last, another small glimmer of hope that the law reaches above the convenience-store crook level.

Yes, high above the street, Wall Street in this instance, looking down from a high perch in a glass office at the tiny ant-like people below, there is a strong temptation to feel a kind of warm pity for the little ones, who move about so purposelessly on the pavement. Then turn back to your glowing terminal, the one that tells you that the deal you recently put together is netting you another cool seven figures. The seven figures that stand between you and the ants. Okay, you cut a corner or two on that deal, by structuring worthless garbage into something you could sell before the truth about it got out. Okay, more than a few corners. But hey, this is the brave new world where risk=reward!

There is no financial risk, because you are too big to fail! There is no legal risk, because you are too big to arrest! This is capitalism as it was meant to be! And yet, what does that trail of ants creeping relentlessly across the floor toward you mean???
