1. You mean you don't have one of those?
What, are you one of the Little People who have to pay interest on your loans?

3. 0% Interest Revolving Accounts at Jewelry Stores Are Fairly Common
for 12 month periods with the monthly payment set at 1/12 of the balance. Given the markup on jewelry, stores can afford to offer up these type of payment arrangements. What should be unacceptable to folks is the level of the debt. As I understand it the debt ranged from $250K to $500K in 2 different years. The total purchases could approach $1 million dollars given the 2 year period. I see that Calista is careful not to wear any of her more "blingy" Tiffany jewels at televised public events opting instead for simple pearls.

4. I'd like to know what exactly they bought
There's a reason for my nosiness...

If you have 5-10 minutes today, feel free to visit www.tiffany.com, and take a look at the pearl jewelry. While it's spendy, it's nowhere near the price of diamonds.

Mrs. Gingrich has expressed a preference for pearls on multiple occasions. In print.

I'd like to know how anyone that's not named Trump or Buffet can run up a bill like that in two years. On pearls. I'd also be curious to know why Gingrich is now claiming that some of the jewelry was bought for other people; it's too easy to check.

For the rest of the world that can't afford to shop at Tiffany, it's one more proof of his tone-deafness.

6. Anyone remember the House Bank scandal that the Repubs rode in on in '96?
One of the big items the Republicans used to gain big in '96 (and Newt rode to become Speaker of the House) was drumming up a "check kiting" scandal at the House bank. Essentially, the House bank gave members the equivalent of no-cost overdraft protection (for quite substantial sums for a long time, in some cases), against their future congressional salary. Basically, a no-interest revolving loan. Nice deal, and not one the average Joe or Jane can get.

Newt and the wingnut proto-teabaggers used it to fuel their anti-incumbent rhetoric and the "Democrats are fiscally irresponsible" meme, and it helped carry forward the "Republican revolution" of the '96 election.

So now Newt has the same deal with Tiffany's.

Remind people of this!
