A philosophy that needs to be drowned in a bathtub

(Bloomberg) When members of the House Budget Committee gathered over sandwiches to meet with the leaders of President Barack Obama’s debt commission in Washington, former Senator Alan Simpson delivered a warning.

“If you are in thrall to Grover Norquist,” the Wyoming Republican who co-led the debt panel said he told the group in February, “this country hasn’t got a prayer.”

There may be enough congressional Republicans enthralled with Norquist, a small-government advocate who has spent the last quarter-century pressing lawmakers to sign a pledge never to raise taxes, to kill any comprehensive, bipartisan deal to rein in the $14.3 trillion national debt, say current and former members of Congress.

“Until Republicans are more afraid of the deficit than they are of Grover Norquist, we’re going to have a problem,” said Representative Christopher Van Hollen of Maryland, the top Democrat on the Budget Committee. ............(more)

3. It is smart to explain how Grover's plan has been to bankrupt the county as
a tactic to then demand that SS and medicare be ended as a result. This is why the GOP runs up huge deficits. So they can use the deficits to steal social security and medicare from the American people.

7. It's like burning down your house to get rid of that lamp your spouse refuses to sell.
It's asinine.

4. They're not enthralled to Grover Norquist, they're enthralled to money and power.
They just happen to see Norquist as either a tool to obtain those ends or a potential, powerful opponent against enriching them selves if they don't pledge fealty.

Their God is money and worshiping at its' altar requires human sacrifice.

Thanks for the thread, marmar.

6. Why is Grover allowed to continue doing this?
I want the leaders of this country to look out for the people, not Asshole Norquist! He disgusts me.

8. Just read the complete article about Norquist
Why doesn't somebody stop him? This is very unethical in my opinion. The article is really scary.
