Aftermath of NY-26: A Struggle for Control Over the Republican Party
The struggle for control over the Republican Party begins in earnest now that the professional politicians can say I told you so to the amateurs. Running a political party is serious business - too serious to let The People do it themselves.

Now we're going to see a huge fight. House Republicans in contested districts who were arm-twisted into voting for the Ryan budget will plead for a way out. It will be a mess, because the professionals don't want any deviation from message control. However, they won't have a choice. To keep the party viable, the professionals will mount their own attack on message control.

What happens when political parties refuse to be reasonable? The dummies and the assholes take over! And run the party into the ground. Fun to watch.

1. The question is what will 'the message' be.
Certainly repugs demand lock-step, but don't see the 'pros' handing the party to the amateurs/newbies/teabgs.

4. Slow Motion Train Wreck
It will be a slow motion train wreck. When Newt Gingrich called the Ryan budget a mistake, he was forced to wear sackcloth and ashes. But he was right, and NY-26 bears him out. Now the realization is dawning on the well-intentioned but ill-informed operatives who punished Gingrich.

A mad scramble ensues! Fun to watch.

3. I have seen no evidence of this -
"...Republicans in contested districts who were arm-twisted into voting for the Ryan budget.."

They stupidly, happily voted to kill Medicare. They (congress people) thought they had a winner and so did the party professionals.

I gather you think there are some rational actors in the Republican Party. I don't.

5. There is no struggle for control.
The GOP is determined to destroy the social safety net.

7. Sure, they may well be the class clowns
But sometimes the class clowns get elected. When their party has control, the country gets run into the ground and that is not fun to watch for me.
