This is a sad loss for AZ

Cecilia Esquer spent her life fighting for the rights of others.

Her daughter, Andrea Esquer, said that up until the 68-year-old Tempe resident contracted the West Nile virus in October, she was still working to make her hometown, native state and nation a place where discrimination is exposed and diversity is embraced.

Esquer died last week after battling virus-induced encephalitis. She had recently published her memoir, "The Lie about my Inferiority, Evolution of a Chicana Activist."

Writing the book was a chance for Esquer to chronicle the fight to overcome stereotypes about Mexican-Americans, said her daughter. In it, Esquer relives her encounters with racism, fighting for civil rights and the determination it takes to overcome life's challenges.

1. Safe passage to her...
I hope she will live on in the book, and in the hearts and minds of those who know and love her.

had such a negative attitude of latinos, may see them differently.
