BP oil spill partly blamed for Gulf dolphin deaths
Source: Straits Times

MIAMI - THE deaths of over 150 dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico so far this year is due in part to the devastating 2010 BP oil spill and the chemical dispersants used to contain it, a report said on Thursday.

A total of 153 dolphins have been found in the Gulf so far in 2011, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Sixty-five of the mammals were babies.

In a study on the effects of the spill, marine expert Graham Worthy of the University of Central Florida, along with 26 other experts, said the dolphins were found in a part of the Gulf that saw nearly five million barrels of crude leak in the worst oil spill in US history.

'If oil and the dispersants have disrupted the food chain, this may have prevented the mother dolphins from getting adequate nutrition and building up the insulating blubber they needed to withstand the cold.' -- AFP

:grr: Huh? BP's oil only "partly" to blame? Yes, the cold water was to blame, too---but the dolphins needed blubber and their food chain was disrupted. I don't see the "partly" at all. Food chain disruptions + location of dead dolphins where blowout occurred = BP's 100% to blame. :grr: Why is this "partly?"

5. If mega-bonuses are now called 'penalties', they have been served.
And these 'penalties' will continue to be served.

Capitalists Rule.

6. No matter what the goop that offed the dolphins, it is RepubliconThink (R)
that brought it about. Drill Baby Drill -- is their ugly Republicon mantra in the face of all the MASSIVE PROBLEMS it causes, and that we taxpayers must then strive to remedy by cleaning up after the RepuliWankers who created the messes & deaths & mayhem.

Without Republicon obstruction, America would have clean renewable energy systems fully in place right now. We knew all this shit was coming down in the 1970s as we sat in lines waiting to fill up our cars. Republicons have blocked every single initiative to get us off our PLANET DESTROYING addition to oil.

9. That is how the news media is presenting it.

Big headlines maybe two, three months back - that not as much oil as suspected is being found in the Gulf.

Well, the Corexit basically vaporized the oil so that it is now in the sea life. And the Corexit had embedded itself and the miniscule oil molecules into the sediment. Massive amounts of it - but just not near the surface where they are pretending that would be.
