Too bad the constitution allows congress to decide how much money we have to pay them and their benefits -that's not competition. What hypocrites.

1. How about get rid of congressional pensions all together?
We need to find a way to stop these people from thinking of it as a job and not a public service.

4. I wonder how much could be saved by cutting the salaries of the 'bagger politicians
to $0, no benefits, no pensions ...

since they don't like the "big gummint", they shouldn't be taking their paychecks from it ... they are now the beast they were tilting at ...

5. 'They' keep telling us that they devote themselves to public...
service. OK, no pensions, get charged rent on your fanciest offices, no franking privs, and cut salaries to more acceptable $75,000/year. That will do it.

7. Total nonsense
Congressman are covered under FERS. They get 1% of their high three per anum and are vested after five years. Some of the old one were there before 1984 and are covered under CSRS (civil service) and they get 2% per year. Do a congressman who served for ten years would get about $17000 per year plus social security. Also the pension is taken out of their check at about 1% a year plus they pay social security.
