Texas Republicans start to imitate the Bolsheviks. Ah, delicious irony!
Full story here: http://thinkprogress.org/2010/12/06/texas-christians-best-jobs/

After getting rid of Kerensky, Lenin's Bolsheviks consolidated their hold over the newly formed Soviet Union, and by 1919,
they ruled supreme. Then they started immediately doing what Russians had been doing throughout history: fighting among
themselves for power. When Trotsky became too great a threat to Stalin, it wasn't enough to flee when he lost the ideological
and political struggle for power. Stalin had him followed to Mexico and had Trotsky knifed to death.

The Texas legislature hasn't yet gotten to assassination by knife (yet), but now that they rule supreme in the statehouse,
they have immediately started on trying to "purify" their ranks. Their Speaker is-oh no!-Jewish. This is not pure enough
for some so-called "Christian" Republican members of the state house of representatives. Although "some of their best friends
are Jewish," they think their speaker should not be, and some of these "Christians" are trying to oust him and put in one
of their own. Tell them that they are acting like the Bolsheviks of the 1920s, and they will all throw up their hands in
horror at being likened to "rooshin kommanists," but, sorry guys, the shoe DOES seem to fit in this case.

Those of us Texans left still willing to claim openly and proudly to be Democrats will be taking a ringside seat to watch
the whackos try to kill each other off (only politically, so far--no small plane crashes yet). I'm waiting for the first
of them to shout out on the floor "morituri te salutant."

1. My dear DFW!
That is wonderful, seeing history repeat itself...

However, I would really be surprised if ANY Texas Republicans actually know enough Latin to be able to say that!

In fact, I'd be surprised to see if any of them know the corresponding English!

:hi:

7. That's true enough
Erudition is not the strong point of most of the Republicans in my state--in ANY language!

3. Interesting analogy. One note to make: An icepick in the brain
killed Trotsky in 1940. Now if your Texan repugs had brains they might have to beware!!

8. I confused Trotsky with Marat--those bathtub murders all run together after a while
I'll be more careful next time. Thanks for the correction!

4. So, if Jesus
who was Jewish was Speaker, he'd have to go too? Some days Rick Perry's broad hints at secession sound attractive.

5. the capitalists are actually big students of lenin: witness this paper from Cato:
Edited on Wed Dec-15-10 04:37 AM by Hannah Bell
(think-tank funded by the Koch brothers)

"Achieving a Leninist Strategy"

http://www.cato.org/pubs/journal/cj3n2/cj3n2-11.pdf

It's about how to take down social security.

the plan is working quite well.

"Finally, we must he prepared for a long campaign. The next Social
Security crisis may be further away than many people believe. Or
perhaps it will occur befire the reform coalition is strong enough to
achieve a political breakthrough. In either case, it could be many
years before the conditions are such that a radical reform of Social
Security is possible. But then, as Lenin well knew, to be a successful
revolutionary, one must also be patient and consistently plan for real
reform.“

That was written in 1983 & is the blueprint for everything they've done since.

They're long-term thinkers, unlike the masses.

11. No one underestimates the stupidity of our elected reps and gets away with it
And that includes those very Republican politicians that thought it was enough to be a good, loyal,
conservative Texas Republican. Ha! You gotta pass the religion test now, too.

Now, it seems, a Jewish speaker of the Texas House is about as welcome as a Southern Baptist running
for president of Iran.
