8. Oh, I'll just tunnel into
the 2 feet of snow we got on the weekend.

This is a lot like the winter of 1991, except then I think we had a little less than 20 inches of snow followed by a brisk snap in the sub-20 below range.

5. What I rode my Bicycle to work today, it is warm outside
Last six hours shows a high of 16 and a low of 14 Fahrenheit, The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 20 today in my home town of Johnstown PA.

Yes, I did ride my bike to work. It is only 2.3 miles one way on a slight downhill grade. I was warm, in my Parka, thermal socks, finger trigger mittens (With wool insert AND thin winter gloves inserts), a Russian hat (Under my Helmet, I had to remove the fur up front to make it fit under the Helmet) and insulated overalls. The road was pack snow of about 1/2 inch thickness (it has snowed about 4-8 inches over the last few days, none of it has melted, but the cars going over the very cold snow we have been having has packed it down to about 1/2 on most road surfaces that have NOT been plowed. Plowed streets tend to be clear, where cars go, but snow cover on the edges where I bicycle.

No problem on the pack snow or ice (some problems on the semi-packed snow i.e. pack down but loose instead of pack down hard onto the road surface). Loose, unpacked snow is NOT a problem. So I bike (Did I tell you I have studded tires for the Bicycle?).

6. Will you remind him it's December?
And, that it normally gets cold in December in the Northern Hemisphere? Also, please point out that it was nearly 70 in Denver the last couple of days.

I HAVE been hearing comments to this effect lately. Yeah, it's colder than normal here, too. But, sheesh. It's supposed to be cold this time of year.

10. That's freakin' cold...
Edited on Wed Dec-15-10 10:38 AM by SidDithers
This northern air flow has played havoc with south-central Ontario. They've had lake-effect snow coming south from Lake Huron and Georgian Bay for about 10 days now. Highway 402 between London and Sarnia has been closed for 2 days now, and will be closed for at least 2 more, as the Canadian military works to remove cars and 6 foot snow drifts from the highway. Motorist were evacuated from their vehicles and now have to play the "where did they take my car" game.

Edit: pic of abandoned car on Hwy 402

Crazy stuff and it's only December 15.

Sid

11. -5 in N.E. WI this a.m. and this feels bitter.
We've had 20 to 30 below more times than anyone would like and I sure hope we don't go there this week or next. It's miserable trying to navigate the holidays in those temps. You stay safe 'til this front moves on! :hi:

13. More extreme weather (in all seasons) is an indicator of climate change
and yes, some areas will become colder even though the overall average temperature increases.

14. Indeed, I know that.
And have pointed that out, along with articles from years ago showing that this is what the climate change theorists predicted. But MFWN gets his daily 3 hours of Rush, etc.

22. but even people like Keith Olbermann still make this mistake
Edited on Wed Dec-15-10 07:56 PM by Motown_Johnny
Watch this clip from his show 2 nights ago and notice his response to BecKKK's madness. His point that 2010 was the hottest year on record is valid but it should be followed up by pointing out that this is exactly what was predicted decades ago.

The same mistake was made repeatedly last year with the big D.C. snow storm.

Why can't our side get this right?

15. Here is La Crosse it was only -11. It's going to be a killer energy bill next month.
The University of Wisconsin has forecast that by the middle of this century the weather in southern WI will be like southern Iowa is now and by the end of the century it will be like Arkansas, but without the super hot summers.
