Today's SCOTUS ruling proves one thing: Elections matter.
The next time somebody tells you that your vote does not matter or the all-too-common canard of, "oh, the Republicans and the Democrats are all the same," remind them of how the Supreme Court ruled in Citizens United and today's Walmart ruling.

Because, if God forbid the Republicans defeat Obama in November 2012, a Republican President will simply appoint more Supreme Court justices that will make even more pro-corporatist rulings. There is a difference between Republicans and Democrats. Should Obama get re-elected, when one of the conservative justices retires, the balance will shift 5-4 liberal when Obama nominates somebody like Sotomayor; and hopefully we won't see as many bad rulings as what goes on in today's court.

Things like marijuana legalization and gay marriage will more likely than not wind up in front of the Supremes. Do you really want even more conservative judges ruling on issues like those?

2. WE would have the 5-4 edge TODAY if Democratic leadership had gone after Thomas.
Edited on Mon Jun-20-11 02:28 PM by Poll_Blind
But 149 days and counting, they haven't done jack shit.

Fuck waiting till the next election, howsabout we fucking get rid of Justice Thomas right now? All Dem. leadership has to do is get the ball rolling. We saw how fast they can drum a Democrat out of our party for ethics violations. How fast can we go after a conservative, corrupt Supreme Court Justice?

How long is that going to take? Never?

4. Unless your talking about Mob Justice that
ends like Thomas hanging at the end of a rope, its not going to happen. Its almost impossible to impeach a SCOTUS judge with a super majority, let alone with the house controlled by insane friends of Thomas.

5. Nah, dude. I think you're the only one who's thinking on those terms.
Don't give me bullshit about it being "almost impossible". You're just making excuses. They haven't even gotten off their asses to try.

8. Walmart wasn't based on merits of the case but on how suit can be filed -
- the ruling didn't say that Walmart wasn't at fault, just that individual suits must be filed in lieu of a class-action suit. Plus, the ruling was unanimous so you really can't say that the judge's personal leanings had any influence on this one.
