Man robs bank for $1 to get medical care in jail
A Gaston County man robbed a bank and then sat down on the floor to wait for police to arrest him.

"(This is the) first time I've ever been in trouble with the law,” James Verone said from the Gaston County Jail on Friday. “I'm sort of a logical person and that was my logic. (That was) what I came up with.”

That is how Verone said he came to the decision to rob the RBC bank on New Hope Road on Thursday, June 9.

He didn’t have a gun and he handed the teller a rather unusual note.

3. The obvious solution is to not offer health care to prisoners.
Actually, they just mentioned this on Fox News... they literally said why doesn't he just go to the emergency room?

8. ER
It never ceases to amaze me how rightwingers keep parroting the idiot lie that "you get free treatment in the ER". And even if that were true, why would you want an ER to be used for anything except actual emergencies? That's why our ERs are so overcrowded, they are used as the physicians of last resort. They're only required to stabilize you, they don't have to see you on an ongoing basis.

Each day, 273 people die due to lack of health care in the U.S.; that's 100,000 preventable deaths per year. This is not only a moral issue, but a national security issue that we're so vulnerable given that our health care delivery system is so fragmented and dysfunctional.

Anyone who leaves this country and goes to a first-world country where health care is a right should try to stay there on a claim of medical amnesty. Of course it won't work, but it will highlight in the world press the deplorable conditions in this country.

"Employer-based health insurance has always been a bad idea. Your life should not depend on who you work for." -- T. McKeon

"Any proposal that sticks with our current dependence on for-profit private insurers ... will not be sustainable. And the new law will not get us to universal coverage ...." -- T.R. Reid, The Healing of America

"Despite the present hyperbole by its supporters, this latest effort will end up as just another failed reform effort littering the landscape of the last century." --John Geyman, M.D., Hijacked! The Road to Single Payer in the Aftermath of Stolen Health Care Reform

10. Yeah, this guy has some sort of growth apparently that he doesn't know what it is
and they're not going to treat that at the ER.

100,000 deaths a year. Why are we not calling this a holocaust? Knowing that there are people manipulating the system to make this happen deliberately, why are we not calling it genocide?

Glenn Beck is quick to describe Soviet policies leading to mass starvation as mass murder. What's different about this?

4. WE MUST CUT SOCIAL SECURITY FOR FELONS!!!!!!!

:sarcasm:

What a sad statement it is that being put in jail is your best hope for a place to live and some basic medical care.

And some people still don't understand why we think single payer would be best for the country.

6. It's also in these three threads, with enough 'recs' to be on greatest page all three times.

11. As did susan Boyle. A simple kick on any of the others, or even the first one,
would keep it on page one of GD, and would probably garner enough 'rec' to be up front on the greatest page.

12. When people start looking at jail as an alternative way to get help
then we are all truly fucked.
