4 year old thrown out of car. Spends several hours alone / injured
Police: Texas man dumps 4-year-old son by highway

A father abandoned his 4-year-old son along a West Texas highway, and the injured boy spent several hours alone in the dark before a passing motorist picked him up, police said.

Carlos Rico, 22, stopped his car along a cactus-lined stretch of Interstate 20 near Sweetwater at about 3 a.m. Tuesday and "threw the boy out of the car like a bag of garbage," Sweetwater police Chief Jim Kelley told the Abilene Reporter-News on Tuesday.

The boy was picked up about three hours later by the local high school basketball coach and taken to a hospital, where doctors removed at least 500 cactus spines from the child's body, Kelley said. The boy was in the state's custody on Wednesday.

"I've seen a lot of bad things. This is absolutely a first. I've never seen a 4-year-old angel left on the side of the road for dead. He's such a sweet little boy," he said.

2. God again
Rico told Saginaw investigators that God told him to choke the boy and expel him from the car, Kelley said. There was bruising on the boy's throat, he said.

14. Rico told investigators that the bird told him that his son was not dead.
"When he arrived in Saginaw, he found a dead bird on the grill of his truck. Rico told investigators that the bird told him that his son was not dead. It was then that he decided to turn himself in. "

So you see, if it wasn't "God" it was going to be the radio, or a ghost in the back-seat, or whatever.

8. Other articles say he's better, getting lots of gifts from strangers.
Father says dead bird on grill told him to turn himself in.

12. "Father says dead bird on grill told him to turn himself in."
If that's true from the other articles you read and the fact that he also apparently said that "God told him to choke the boy and expel him from the car" and you add it the fact that the cousin apparently sensed something was deeply wrong..... taken all together I'd venture a guess of an acute episode of schizophrenia.

He's still in the right age-group for onset.

Tragedy indeed for the little boy, but perhaps a blessing in disguise. Maybe now he'll have a chance. He's lucky to be alive, poor baby.

6. I'm glad I read that additional charges may be filed
Because I don't think the child endangerment charge goes far enough. That's attempted murder as far as I'm concerned.

10. Unfortunately I cannot say I have never
seen this before.

I have... the asshole that did that was given 20 in jail... the girl... she ended up in a state run orphanage. I don't know who was worst off... tragedy all around

11. Not again: "God told him to..." !?
there was bruising on the boys throat. The father told cops that God told him to choke the boy and throw him out of the car.

The father is mentally ill and this could have ended worse for the child.

13. He was also talking to a dead bird on the radiator grill.
"When he arrived in Saginaw, he found a dead bird on the grill of his truck. Rico told investigators that the bird told him that his son was not dead. It was then that he decided to turn himself in. "
