Michele Bachmann is in favor of less government. She feels that private businesses and corporations can do a much better job in a lot of areas. She feels that government should stop telling people how to live and run their businesses. She feels that corporations pay too much in taxes and that should be reduced. Capital gains should be eliminated. Minimum wage should be eliminated.
Let's look at Michele Bachmann's life after she graduated from high school. She went on to college. I will assume she paid for college the same as the majority of people of her generation. She either got some help from her parents, got a scholarship, perhaps a Pell Grant or a Stanford loan. She went to a state college, Winona State University. Graduated in 1978. Did she use any form of government money to further her education after she married??
She worked for the IRS as an attorney for 5 years, 1988 to 1993.
From 1992 to 2000, she and her husband provided foster care for 23 young girls with eating disorders who were patients in a program at the University of Minnesota. The Bachmann home was legally defined as a treatment home, with a daily reimbursement rate per child from the state. Some girls stayed a few months, others more than a year. She held the license for 7 ½ years.
She was in the Minnesota Senate from 2001 to 2006.
She has been in the United States House of Representative from 2001 to the present.
She and her husband own two counseling clinics. The State of Minnesota paid about $30,000 to train the counselors that work for the clinics. The clinics over the years have been paid about $130,000 from Medicare or Medicaid.
Her family has benefited from farm subsidies. Whether she has or has not gotten money directly is not the point.
As one can see the government helps people. Local and state government supply funds to provide public education. The state government provides funds to provide affordable college. The federal government provides funds either through grants or student loan guarantees.
The state and the federal government provides funds to help treat people with problems. We all have problems and sometimes we do need help. Case in point, foster care and mental health issues, help supplied by loving families and counselors.
The states and the federal government needs people to help run this country. Some of these are workers and some are the legislators.
Michele Bachmann has chosen her path through life. Is she a good person?? I do not know. Only her god knows for sure. However, I do know that the state and federal government have helped her get where she is now. What I do not understand is why she is so set against helping others get where she is. Is she so selfish that as long as she has it she does not want anyone else to have the same advantages or help that she has been afforded throughout her life??
She lives in a $1 + million home on a golf course. She has gotten wages paid by common American citizens for over 16 years. Would she be where she is today without government help??
Yet she wants to cut the money that government can spend to help people. Cut their wages, limit the medical care they can get, tell people that they can live with dirty air, dirty land, and toxic water. Why is it okay now after she has lived a good portion of her life and gotten many benefits??
These are the questions that Michele Bachmann needs to be asked and she needs to answer them......
