From Motherjones on Loughner
http://motherjones.com/mojo/2011/01/giffords-alleged-shooter-made-video-showing-obsession-currency-tea-party-staple?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Motherjones%2Fmojoblog+%28MotherJones.com+|+MoJoBlog%29&utm_content=Twitter

Jared Lee Loughner, arrested in connection with the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford and others, posted a YouTube "manifesto" of sorts in December. The video discusses, in a rather incoherent manner, the "new currency." Currency is a staple of Tea Party rhetoric, just as it has been a staple over the history of the Nativist right. The fears of the far right always have been that the Federal Reserve system will sink the country by printing funny money.

During his 2008 campaign for the presidency, and many times since then, libertarian Ron Paul warned against paper money. Various Tea Party groups have joined in raising the alarm against the dangers of printing money, and some have even suggested using an alternative currency of silver and gold.

There is another tangent in the paper money discussion, which holds that Jews are behind the Federal Reserve system, and are working behind the scene to destroy the true American Republic. It is worth noting that Giffords is the first Jewish member of Congress in Arizona's history.

5. I have a biblical name as do countless other Americans
My parents were Christian but not right-wing.

What is your point?

14. My point was to respond to the immediately previous post

Which suggested that Jared was a name distinctive of one particular religious group.

My response stated that the name does not appear to be distinctive of that particular religious group.

It is unlikely, on the basis of a name, that any guesses about a particular individual's background could be made.

Probably most Americans names are broadly "Biblical", and trends change over time. For example, I believe Michael is more popular than John, at this point.

Some of these name preferences are regional. Broadly speaking, you'd probably find more "Hezekiah"s among southern US Christians than elsewhere. However, if you run across a Hezekiah, that general observation is not a good basis to make any probable conclusion about that person.

Fundies do tend to favor Old Testament names. It does not follow that someone with an OT name is a fundie.

But if forced to guess the backgrounds of the following individuals:

1. Irving
2. Mary Elizabeth
3. Ezekial
4. Ahmed
5. Shaonda

...then you might make some guesses, but then again anyone with any background might have any of those names.

Hence, I responded to the poster who believed that "Jared" may be principally a "Jewish name", by suggesting otherwise.

Are you happy now?

15. Please read my post above

The person to whom I responded believed that Jared was a "Jewish name".

I pointed out that it is not necessarily so.

You seem to think I said "anyone with a Biblical name is a Reich-wing Xtian", which does not follow from what I said.

Secondly, my hope - is for you to be literate! If you're literate in English
grammar, then you comprehend English grammar. The majority of people,
who reside in District -8 are illiterate - hilarious. I don't control your English
grammar structure.

6. It may be a bit of a stretch to be suspect on the "money" route ...
... I believe you don't need to go too far to understand that the US, rather than introduce the same austerity measures going on outside this country, has simply been printing more. That's worrisome... Fiat money is a concern to more than Glenn Beck watchers, or tea-baggers, if they even understand the financial banking system that we allowed to steal all that money.

So, when you see, for instance the price of gold and silver be referenced, this is natural phenomena. We really are affected. Some want to buy silver or whatever. That doesn't automatically align you to something outside democratic values... especially when you begin to believe that of all the assets that did well in 2010, it was gold and silver that rose, when the dollar did not.

Stay on topic and don't freak over someone's twisted interpretation of what this means. This guys was an idiot with a Glock.

16. All money is fiction
So is the price or perceived value of gold and silver. The price of all comodities is a derivative of the fiction, the fiction being what we believe the dollar is worth and the relative "value" of commodities.

Diamonds are crysalized charcoal and can in fact now be made from peanut butter. We believe they are worth something, therefore they are. If we believe the dollar is worth something, it will be. How many dollars actually exist is an imponderable. When the value of residential properties fall, dollars disappear. The sum of values in the market place is not related to some fraction of the dollars that have been printed. "Printing" more of them is not relevant.
