GRAND RAPIDS - The Mackinac Center's legal foundation today announced it is filing suit against nine Kent County school districts and other agencies, contending that recent labor contracts are illegal because they prevent privatizing of services.
"Districts recognized this was improper, and did it anyway," said Patrick Wright, who directs the legal foundation for the Midland-based Mackinac Center, a free-market think tank.
The Kent County Circuit Court suit will be filed today on behalf of five local taxpayers, Wright said during a morning press conference held in Grand Rapids.
Named in the suit are the Kent County Intermediate School District, the Kent County Education Association and these districts: Byron Center, Comstock Park, Godfrey Lee, Godwin Heights, Grandville, Kenowa HIlls, Lowell, Northview and Rockford.
