5. But it ends up hurting them in the long run... Or am I insane in seeing it?
How does 13 months of help going to really be a + when in 11 or 12 months of their help they need to pray that some sort of legislations passes that helps them further. AND how will it happen when the republicans are in power.

I know I know some people can't see past the 13 months because they are in such need of the 13 months.

6. You know, if you're in a position where you're going to go from
having the small amount UI provides to having nothing at all, you're probably not thinking a year ahead. Unless you've been there, you cannot possibly understand what that means.

So, if you can keep those people in mind when you're discussing this whole thing, that would be a good thing. We have such people as members right here on DU, you know. When you're living month-to-month or even week-to-week, thinking long-range or strategically isn't much comfort.

People eat daily, not annually.

7. My wife and I are people that live from pay check to paycheck
if either one of us lose a job than we are seriously screwed.

We are people who make just too much for assistance but not enough to get by and have a savings.

So in a sense we are able to see a glimps of what they are going thru. My wife works for a place where if they don't have enough work she is sent home. Last year with all the times she was sent home she might have been employed part time.

8. Same here. Since I've worked almost my entire adult life as
a freelance writer, even the paycheck to paycheck thing wasn't always the case. It's a challenge, but I wouldn't do it any differently if I could go back to my 30s. Even today, I'm still working as a writer to supplement my Social Security check, and my wife is also doing contract writing, along with her magazine and magazine website writing.

It's been feast or famine for us since 1974. No complaints, though. That's what we chose to do.
