Help buy poker lessons for President Obama ..Email I just received from FOE.

Had to share it. It is a donation requqest, but the metaphors were priceless.

Dear

One blogger captured it best when he said that President Obama’s negotiating strategy was the equivalent of arriving at a strip poker game already naked -- a nice metaphor about how the president caved to Republican demands to extend Bush’s tax cuts to millionaires.

If he is willing to lay his cards on the table so quickly, can we really expect him to stand up for the environment once Republicans take the House of Representatives in January?

Part of our agenda for 2011 will be giving President Obama some lessons in how to play a good game of poker. And we need you to be his teacher -- reminding him about his campaign promises to stand up for the interests of the people in the face of polluting special interests.

We’ll be giving you and our 125,000-strong network of activists plenty of opportunities to send President Obama and his administration reminders next year, but right now I’m asking you to help by supporting our campaign to raise $100,000 by January 1.

There’s so much at stake next year that a generous donor has pledged to match your gift and double the impact of your generosity.

With big Republican victories in the last election, winning and defending strong environmental protections will be an uphill battle.

We need President Obama to be the leader we voted for in 2008. We need him to stand between corporate lobbyists and their plans to dismantle key environmental laws like the Clean Air Act. We need him to halt environmental disasters in the making like the Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline.

That’s why Friends of the Earth will be upping the ante in 2011. We’ll let the president know that we will not tolerate capitulation to polluters -- and urge him to use his powerful platform as communicator-in-chief to galvanize public support for bold climate action.

Help give us the strength we’ll need to win this and other fights next year – please give $25 or more to our campaign today.

The only game in which President Obama is holding his cards close to his chest is at international climate negotiations -- the very game in which we need open and honest negotiations. We just watched his administration "negotiate" a weak, unfair climate deal at the expense of developing countries.

Next year, we’ll be fighting to compel the president and his administration to push for and accept an international climate agreement with binding, science-based limits on heat trapping emissions, one that helps developing countries facing the worst impacts of climate change. We’ve already started with a petition to be delivered to the State Department, calling on Secretary Clinton to drop the bullying tactics and work with our global neighbors.

We need your help so that our country can become a leader working for a fair and strong climate agreement. Please give generously today and a dedicated donor will match your gift!

Warm regards,
Erich Pica

1. I think we should start with old maid or maybe even go fish.
Lets solidify the basics before teaching an advanced game like poker.

2. First lesson: "Ante up" doesn't mean give the other player all your chips and your shirt.
