Since evisceration of social security is now part of the annual budgetary process, thanks to a
president elected as a Democrat, surely no one will be deluded enough to think social security will not now be on the chopping block every year. Surely the geniuses in D.C. are fully aware this evisceration will contract the economy by a big multiplier effect as lagniappe, thus shrinking tax revenues and further continuously contracting the economy. :patriot:

3. It does seem like pulling "facts" out of someones ass and presenting it as fact
is a common thing now, doesn't it? Its really sad because facts are what used to define us and differentiate us from the right.

2. I'm going to have to agree with you
The details I have seen that the gang banging 6 and Obama seem to really appreciate kind of suck. I really can't imagine they will improve them.

10. This looks more and more like tax cut extension redux, doesn't it?
Edited on Tue Jul-19-11 01:51 PM by gratuitous
Back in 2010, we were repeated assured that through some subtle machination, the tax cuts for the wealthy would be allowed to expire, while maintaining lower rates for everyone else. As the year wound down, there was an increasing "crisis" ginned up that persuaded people that Something Must Be Done or the Republicans would use the tax increase against Democrats, and sweep to victory in November. Be patient, we were told. There was a grand plan that would be revealed.

Well, nothing happened before the election, except that the Democratic base was so dispirited by the spinelessness of their Democrat cohort, and the Republicans did indeed gain seats in the House and the Senate. In a lame duck session, when it would have been perfectly politically safe for the Democratic majorities to order things as they wished, instead they made an affirmative choice to extend the Bush tax cuts, as ruinous as that has continued to be for the budget and the economy.

Now, we're seeing the same game play out for social security and medicare. Be patient. There's nothing on the table yet. There's no bill. You're being alarmist. Sure, the outlines of what's taking shape are abominable, but that doesn't mean the final result will be that bad. Besides, Something Must Be Done! And that right soon. When the fait is accompli, we will then be assured that it was the best possible outcome, none of you lot understand the political realities, and now the issue has been defused for the upcoming election. It was nonsense in 2010, it's nonsense now.
