What are some of the positive side effects of default?
Obviously financial catastrophe is a bad thing, but there must be some bright sides. Someone suggested it could put a dent in the obesity problem. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1600423

What are some other good things?

Less traffic since no one will be able to afford cars.
Less carbon emissions
Cheap gas
A dollar will be a dollar again
Bread lines will be a social place to meet people

What else?

8. When we came out of the last great depression
We got the New Deal. I'd hate to think we have to go through that all over again to get us back on a progressive path but nothing else seems to be working. It seems all we've been able to do for the last 30 years is put on bandaids and stick our fingers in the dam while the whole thing keeps crumbling around us. Maybe the only way is for it to all come crashing down and finally shock the common folks out of their complacency. Not a pretty thought at all though :(

9. The two countries that defaulted in the recent past did great
Argentina and Russia. In both cases, unemployment and poverty rates plunged after default.
