What constitutes "Far Left" in today's world?
I have always considered myslef Liberal but not "Far Left". I am a fiscal Conservative in that I believe in a balanced budget and paying for what you buy.. I am not all that opposed to drilling for oil nor am I all that opposed to nuclear energy. I believe very strongly in Progressive Taxation, and I believe we could cut our Military Budget in half and still be the most powerful force on the face of the earth..Am I "Far Left"

2. I consider myself a moderate/liberal, but you're considered a radical leftist on Du
Edited on Wed Dec-15-10 05:43 PM by myrna minx
if you're an advocate for single payer, marriage equality, repeal of DADT and progressive taxation. It's surreal that this is considered radical, but it is.

6. I do believe Health care should be a Right and the Government should provide for it.
I also believe all persons should be treated equal. so I guess I am "Far Left" and completely against everything America stands for..

7. It depends on who you ask.
For the most part, I would not consider you far left at all, but there are those who will consider you far left depending on your views on some issues. Issue by issue is how they label you, usually.

I'm far left. Sure, I'm to the right on the 2nd amendment, but for absolutely everything else, I'm to the left. So, I usually get pegged as far left no matter what.

8. "Far left" is an epithet snarled by Sean Hannity, spat out by Rush Limbaugh . . .
burbled by Glenn Beck, snarked by Bill O'Reilly, and shrieked by Anne Coulter. It has no semantic content.

Yes the bar has shifted so far right we no longer have the kind of traditional liberals that existed in the first half of the 20th century.

in today's world, far left is something like the Communist Party of the Philippines, Shining Path, or some other Marxist-Leninist party with a military wing.

20. I'm a progressive...
And people think I'm very far left. I'm pro-choice, anti-censorship, pro-equality (what's best for all humans, with absolutely no discrimination on race, faith, gender, sexual orientation, etc.), and believe in being as kind to our planet as is reasonably possible.

moderate in a civilized society.

27. And oddly enough, I live in a "red" state...
...though I'm actually a transplanted Chicagoan, which is about as blue as it gets, at least if you're not on one of the coasts.

It isn't that my views have changed all that much over the years - it's that a certain faction of society has gone so far to the right (i.e. those pesky Shrub-lovers and Tea Baggers), that people like me are looked at a bit funny. And I'm not "granola" or a "commie" or any of those other terms that are so loosely thrown around - I'm a very creative type, am extremely "girly" (for lack of a better description), and have a family, and all of that. I'm just a very open-minded person, and I think we, as a society, need to keep our collective minds and options as open as we can, in order to help as many as possible. It's how I was raised, I guess...I grew up with a sister who's been openly gay for as long as I can remember, a desire to not be like my mother's uptight Rethug relatives, and I also had a very open-minded father who had the wisdom to tell me that I could do or be whatever I set my mind on, and to not let anyone tell me I couldn't "because (I am) a girl," and I am particularly indebted to my Daddy for instilling that in me from an early age. It's just common sense to me.

29. It's Newspeak.
Those of us old, FDR, New Deal Democrats (even though I'm no longer a Democrat) are now considered "Far Left." By your definition of being OK with drilling off the coast and lack of opposition for nuclear energy, imo, you're center-right which means you're with the President and the "New Democrats."
