GA - special session starting Monday 8/15
(Posting here for more traffic than GA forum)

Gov Deal has called a special session beginning this coming Monday. The most far reaching item to address is re-districting. State Senators Jason Carter and Hardie Davis penned the following op-ed in today's AJC and it's well worth the read - their comments apply nationally, and not just to GA:

DU'ers outside the South & Southbashers in general - the op-ed should give you a ray of hope that we're not all mouth-breathing racist & religious nuts down here.

Also on tap for the special session is moving the transportation investment act referendum vote from July 2012 to November to coincide with the broader state & national elections. I have mixed emotions about the move: 1) positive in that more folks will certainly vote; 2) negative in that this gives the anti-improvement crowd (teabaggers & republicans) a chance to mount more successful opposition to the proposed $0.01 sales tax.

2. The problem is, I live in Cherokee county and they
want me to vote for a sales tax to build a TOLL road that I will not afford to use. Studies show that will increase traffic and slow it down even worse. And then we can't build any additional roads for improvement that will compete with the PRIVATE TOLL ROAD.

I am a solid NO on this one and I am no tea bagger but if you think I am using my tax dollars to build a private road, I am sick of private profits public losses.

Same goes for Blank and a new stadium. He can build his own like Jerry Jones and Jack Kent Cooke.
