PFAW: Tell Mitt Romney that corporations are not people
Edited on Fri Aug-12-11 10:53 AM by sinkingfeeling
Gov. Romney,

Your assertion that “corporations are people” is not only wrong, but represents the kind of thinking and Tea Party economics that threaten to keep our economy stagnating, keep the wealth gap in this country widening and keep an already heavily burdened middle class struggling!

You’re wrong, plain and simple, and you should retract your comment.

1. I don't want him to retract his statement. I want it out there
and I want the Dems to smack him over the head with it at every opportunity.

2. Corps ARE people

Supreme Court said so in 1886...

So whenever someone mentions activist judges...agree with them and bring up the 1886 Santa Clara County court decision.

3. That's where you got your story wrong.

From my memory:

A clerk inserted a note about corporate personhood in the Santa Clara Railroad decision and everyone's been yelling "corporate personhood" and it wasn't until the Citizen United decision that made it happen for real.

This is directly from the reclaimdemocracy.org website:

One of the most severe blows to citizen authority arose out of the 1886 Supreme Court case of Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad. Though the court did not make a ruling on the question of "corporate personhood," thanks to misleading notes of a clerk, the decision subsequently was used as precedent to hold that a corporation was a "natural person."

That clerk needs to be dug up, shot repeatedly, burnt to crisp, and cursed to the 8th circle of Hell for eternity.

That clerk was the first insane Republican.
