War Room
Pawlenty's awkward Bachmann moment
By Natasha Lennard

As our own Steve Kornacki noted about Thursday night's Republican presidential candidate debate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty gave a "stammering, incoherent response" when asked about the criticisms he's levelled against Michele Bachmann on the campaign trail, with the congresswoman standing right next to him.

Both candidates attacked each other's political records (Pawlenty as governor; Bachmann in Congress) and as Kornacki put it, "her words were strong, but so was her delivery.. Pawlenty’s delivery, on the other hand, called to mind a hostage tape, a man saying words that he knows he has to say, but doesn’t really want to or know how to."

We thought you might want to see the clip of the most heated moment in the Iowa debate, via Mediaite: http://www.salon.com/news/morning_clip/index.html?story=/politics/war_room/2011/08/12/pawlenty_bachmann_awkward_moment

1. They are both equal opportunity idiots.
I can draw no distinctions between them.

3. Didn't Pawlenty fumble away a chance to stick it to Mitt the time before?
Timmeh was pretty vocal about how horrible the Romney health care plan had been in Massachusetts, but when it came time for him to say it in the last panel, Pawlenty suddenly developed lockjaw and couldn't criticize Romney to his face.

I wonder if this will finish off Pawlenty's already negligible chance of getting the nomination?

4. Timmeh the Tool will be the nominee, much less the POTUS
when sheep are circling my 16th floor office under their own power. Whatta maroon, and duller than dirt on top of it.

5. Pawlenty's "nice guy" persona got him as far as the governor's office, but no further.
Unless you're being propped up by the Republican political machine (as W was), "nice" doesn't get you anywhere in national politics.
