7. He makes perfect sense. China terrifies me. The capitalistic ideology of ever-greater growth
is rather horrific.

11. It's about exponential growth,
resource depletion, and whether or not the human race is smarter than a bacteria culture. It appears we're not.

13. The negative 3/2 Log Law of Self-Thinning applies to any
monoculture with a closed environment be it bacteria, corn, or Douglas-fir.

12. It's an excellent talk. I watched it a long time ago.
The interesting implication is this:

The population growth must eventually stop because exponential growth of population is not physically possible on a finite planet. Therefore we should do whatever we can to lower the rate of population growth. However, medicine, sanitation, public health, peace, law and order, accident prevention, clean air, etc., all contribute to increasing the rate of population growth by lowering the death rate.

Therefore, it follows that by championing these causes we are making the population crisis worse. That's a rather unsettling conclusion, but from the standpoint of physics it's a simple fact. The more we help people to live a better life, the worse the overpopulation problem becomes.

The way to fix that problem is to voluntarily decrease the birth rate. If we don't, then as population pressure increases the death rate WILL go up.
