Picture at fallen Navy SEAL's funeral.
How sad is this...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/24/dog-of-fallen-navy-seal-refuses-to-leave-casket_n_935707.html

The dog of fallen Navy SEAL Officer Jon Tumilson refused to leave his owner's casket at the officer's funeral earlier this week, Animal Planet reported.

Tumilson's cousin Lisa Pembleton captured the loyal pup, Hawkeye, resting alongside Tumilson's casket at the Rockford, Iowa ceremony.

KPBS reported that the former San Diego resident was killed in the Aug. 6th Chinook helicopter crash with 29 other American service members.

Pembleton contacted KPBS's Home Post publication with this statement:
"Hawkeye is/was his loyal "son". To say that he was an amazing man doesn't do him justice. The loss of Jon to his family, military family and friends is immeasurable. I hadn't planned on taking any pictures other than with family. However, from my seat at the funeral, I felt compelled to take one photo to share with family members that couldn't make it or couldn't see what I could from the aisle. This is that photo."

20. Instinct..&....I know first hand.
The day I was being retired a co-worker (police K-9 handler) was tragically killed in a construction accident. His dog was always a bit high strung & only one other handler could get near him. On the day of his funeral they brought him & his car to the funeral home. The dog howled and whined the moment he saw his masters casket and was hard to hold onto at he church & cemetery where he wouldn't budge. I will never forget that sorrowful whine. The dog went on to serve in another dept. and has since passed himself. During the years he would be brought to the cemetery where he would circle the grave and lie down. Now both are gone re-united on some other plane.

21. A vet friend who served as a scout dog handler in Vietnam...
...told me that after going through 3, 4 or 5 handlers, a dog would no longer be useful for military duty--and often would even turn on a new handler and attack him.

It's common among human war vets (and other trauma survivors) who experience a sense of betrayal, loss and grief to manifest psychological 'survival' reactions that may include erecting emotional walls that keep others at a distance and avoid becoming emotionally close to anyone again--thus avoiding the overwhelming pain that can come with closeness followed by loss.

Even with a substantially less-deveped brain, indications that a dog may have similar instinctive, perhaps even primitive, psychological survival reactions--as well as the underlying sense of loss, grief and even betrayal--are not so surprising.

Anyone who comes home to find his or her dog suddenly excited and spit-licking happy at the return knows that dogs do develop deep attachments to humans. The possibility that the death of the dog's human companion is deeply felt by the dog--and even experienced as a loss that is extremely painful and even accompanied by psychological reactions--is not so far-fetched, at all.

R.I.P., Petty Officer Jon Tumilson. :patriot:

And best wishes for the future to his faithful companion, Hawkeye--may he also find healing and peace. :patriot:

17. I remember the last time I was really sick, two of the cat refused to
get out of my bed, they were laying on top of me and only left to eat and poop and come back to be with me...

Now some might say that this is just how cats are, but they sensed something was wrong.

Animals have a sense, a bond.

I feel for this guy and really want these wars to end.

So much carnage, so many heart breaks, so many tears....

47. A coworker died over a year ago of tongue cancer.
She was only 44 and never smoked. Her illness and death came as a sad reality that life is precious and can be cut short at any time. Cynthia had a cat who she loved dearly. The cat was overweight and had trouble climbing the stairs. Cynthia's partner didn't like cats and the cat never went upstairs. When she was near the end and they sent her home, that cat managed to drag herself up the stairs and only left Cynthia's side to eat and use the litter box.

Animals are amazing.

Please, someone, tell me that the family is going to care of this dog! The fallen soldier would have wanted him to be taken care of!

I'm sure the family and friends realize this and will. The article just doesn't specifically address this.

34. I am a vet
so don't get me wrong. I would gladly share my dinner table with any veteran. I am horrified that these wars are now the longest in US history and have gained our nation little in securing our future. The corporation's futures however are what these wars have been all about, as far as I am concerned.

To Petty Officer 1st Class Jon Tumilson, I am sorry your life is not fulfilled, rest in peace. As always, a sailor, marine, soldier, air force, coast guard, are always too young when they make the ultimate sacrifice.

Hawkeye is loyal, more so than most humans have a capacity to do the same. I love dogs and I hope he finds a home that is free from danger and he lives his life happily, to its natural conclusion.

But reading some posts on Yahoo, about this funeral, one struck me as having so much truth, that it exposes the lies our government has been feeding us for years.

it read: "This dip-shit did not die defending his country, he died invading someone else's"

Now I know that Jon was following orders, Hell I did that myself. I went where and when my nation needed me, no questions asked. But that statement, as disrespectful as it is to the person who was Jon, it is in my opinion loaded with the truth that our government hides from us everyday.

It may have been misguided, but I have respect and admiration for him. He walked the walk for his beliefs...how about the rest of us? I hate the system that tricked him into doing it, but that isn't his fault. He died with honor.
