2 injured when jet way collapses at LAX

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The pilot and a passenger of an American Airlines flight have been injured after falling about 10 feet when the floor board of a jet way collapsed at Los Angeles International Airport.

American Airlines spokeswoman Rhonda Rathje says the pilot and passenger were exiting Flight 557 after it arrived at about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday from Chicago. When they stepped onto the jet way — the moveable walking ramp that connects planes to the terminal — the platform gave way and they fell at least ten feet to the ground.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Matt Spence says two people were transported to Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Marina del Rey in fair condition.

Rathje says the passenger was treated and released. She did not know the status of the pilot. ..........(more)

1. I *hate* walking over those things.
They always seem unstable to me. Hope the pilot will be ok.

2. I've never given them a thought -- I probably will from now on,
though, especially when we're all stacked up, standing in there like sardines.

4. Yep. Especially when there's a backup at the plane door......

...... and you're standing on those bouncy jetway floors with a bunch of other passengers.

5. Well, you can always get exercise as well as have fun:
get everyone to do jumping jacks while waiting there at the plane door. ;-)

6. Just one more thing that wouldn't happen with a bullet train.

7. My guess is that the part that collapsed was the plate covering...
...the gap between the jetway and the plane.
