anybody care to check the calendar? They are fair, they are good... but I wonder how many REALLY POOR people have the money to do so?

The same happened in Katrina. If you are in any of these areas and can help a neighbor who cannot AFFORD IT... please consider doing such...

15. Great post - also check on friends with pets

a lot of problems with that during Katrina (also Ike)... some kennels actually stay open in storms. Some public shelters have revised rules and will allow pets in carriers.

If you are riding out the storm make sure you have your non-perishable food and gallons of water, and food for pet friends as well (prescriptions too).

I find that during storms my dog will settle right down if I put him in his crate with a treat. Haven't tried it during a hurricane, but it works for thunder storms.

I am more than willing to take in folks who need to shelter. I have plenty of room, and I'd welcome the company. If the lights go out, at least we'll all be in the dark together.
