DO NOT GO INTO THE OCEAN: Tropical storm watch in effect, 6 rescued in Myrtle Beach
Six people were rescued from treacherous rip currents Thursday and the National Hurricane Center raised a tropical storm watch for much of the South Carolina coast as Hurricane Irene approached.
Those on the coast were warned about rip currents, beach erosion and strong winds from the storm. The hurricane is not expected to make a direct hit on South Carolina, instead passing north and east toward a forecast landing near North Carolina's Outer Banks during the day Saturday.

They finally closed the beaches rather than let Darwin take care of it. If you are caught in a rip current, do not try to swim against it. Swim parallel to the shore until you are out of it. They don't pull you down, just out. You will wear yourself out trying to swim against it.
These are the effects right now. It's going to get much worse as Irene approaches.

1. LOL on the Darwin thing!
If you are standing knee deep in the surf and you feel the outgoing water quickly digging the sand out from under you feet, it's time to search for dry land, ASAP. The oceans are polluted enough without the bloated tourists.
