Please stop bashing Rick Perry, Al Gore and Barack Obama
It's about issues, not people.

Bashing people who represent bad policy is like whack-a-mole. There's always a Michelle Bachmann if you whack Rick Perry. But if we can expose their policies, we can better quash that policy.

Bash the issues when you don't like what a politician (or anyone) is doing. Anyway, bashing people only further entrenches their supporters.

1. Not entirely true. The people DO matter.
Many people voted for Obama because of his charisma and charm in addition to his policies. Some, I'm sure, voted for him ONLY because of his personal qualities, taking the issues for granted (looks like we messed up there, huh).

Some people, hopefully, will NOT vote for Bachman because she is batshit crazy, aside from her policies, and they may find Perry more attractive. So it is necessary to expose the personal flaws of Perry, too -- he's just as crazy as Bachman, in his own way.

Just my $0.02.

2. Hmm. Evidence that we've moved on from hurricane Irene.
DU is really pretty much back to situation-usual.

4. Please don't put the likes of Ricky Perry alongside Al Gore & Barack Obama...
Which of these three, is unlike the others? And, no, the person DOES matter. While the majority of RETHUGS are anti-choice, (as but one example), not every single one would act to do ANYTHING possible to take that choice away. Clearly a Perry or a Bachman would. Not every RETHUG would go to the same extent to disenfranchise Dem-leaning voters or to take away collecting bargaining rights... A Walker certainly would. Yes, the PERSON does matter.

6. What issues are you talking about specific to Rick Perry?
He's a blowhard egotistical psychopath and he takes the issues and twists them into monstrosities. He calls on people to pray to God to stop the drought. Where's the issue buried in that? That he wants to make this country a theocracy? Well how in the world can anyone discuss that without trashing him?

7. Hey it is not us who started in on the extremely personal 'bashing'
Edited on Tue Aug-30-11 08:18 AM by Bluenorthwest
of all GLBT families in the name of 'God in the Mix'. I find this OP to be craven. The OP expects us to listen to Obama and Perry slander our families, promote hate preachers, claim we lack personality elements, say our families are not equal to their own. How is that about issues but not about people?
McClurkin is where it started, the baiting. Few of the straight community gave a shit about those personal attacks, which continue to this day.
So get the hater religion mongers to cease their bashings which often use baseball bats and laws along with the words.

8. Good point.
The Democratic Party, and the nation, would be healthier and better off if issues rather than people and $$ were everyone's priority.

11. I wish it worked that way
but when you attack a bad policy - say, privatization of SS - and a politician claims they are DEFENDING SS, as they damned near all claim, you have to point out how THAT politician is actually effecting bad policy.

Where does criticism become 'bashing'? It is when we say so-n-so is lying? Is that bashing? What if he is claiming to be defending SS while enacting policies that undermine SS? Doesn't that mean, whenever he says "I support SS and want to strengthen it", he IS lying?

Politicians and the lies they tell are inseparable. There is no such thing as 'bashing'.
