How do I volunteer for Irene clean up?
I have a seasonal job that should go a little cold in the next two weeks. I've got airline passes to the east. I need a couch to sleep on and a couple of meals a day. I've got two hands and will work till I drop. Who do I talk to?

5. I'd second FEMA or RED CROSS
have a resume ready. With a proper skill set they can put you to work, They may even offer that coat and MRE.

Do not be too surprised if they do not take you though... so perhaps better to give money... most organizations want to train people.

My third choice is a religious organization. I may not trust them, but they will, or the local colleges.

6. For any DUers with similar intentions--it takes a long time to recover from flooding.

There will probably still be people needing help months from now, so if you have a generous spirit but can't get away just now, there will probably still be an aid organization working in the area that could use you.
